Megamaindo remix - part 2

Feb 21, 2011 21:11

And now for more choice selections from the new and improved(?) Japanese fansub.

Part 1 of Megamaindo Remix here

And in case you missed it the first time, the original "Megamaindo" can be found here

Original: "Which will put everything back the way it was, when the world was perfect and rosy."
J-sub v1: "Everything will become like the past... a time when the world was perfect and like a rose..."
J-sub v2: "Everything will become like the past, a world with both good and evil and every day rose-colored."

(This is a long exchange, so I won't post the original and v1, but I think you can figure out which conversation it's supposed to be)
Minion: "Boss, this is a bad idea."
Megamind: "That's right, it is certainly a righteousness greater than the road to evil."
Megamind: "I have a horribly bad feeling about this. Think about it, you're delusional. Wouldn't it be better to be a more simplistic villain?"
Megamind: "You don't understand what's needed to be evil."

Original: "We must find a suitable subject; someone of noble heart and mind who puts the welfare of others above their own."
J-sub v1: "We should choose an appropriate target. Someone who would harm me... Someone who brings about the happiness of their own friends."
J-sub v2: "We should choose a person carrying a well-intentioned heart and soul who will obey us. A person who accepts all people and brings about prosperity."
("subject"... it means many things)

Original: "I kept forgetting where it was."
J-sub v1: "I forgot where I put [the doormat]."
J-sub v2: "I forgot to put [the doormat] away."

(Another multi-line conversation that I'll just post the most recent revision of. I can totally see this conversation actually happening.)
Megamind: "Minion, send out the brain robo."
Minion: "What's the password?"
Megamind: "Oh, just do it, Minion."

Original: "Bernard, run!"
J-sub v1: "Bernard, help!"
J-sub v2: "Bernard, come!"
(WHY IS THIS LINE SO HARD?!)

Original: (this line did not exist)
J-sub v1: (this line did not exist)
J-sub v2: Roxanne (in the exciting door): "Help!"
(Dammit, stop making Roxanne such a wuss!)

Original: "Wow, that was really exciting."
J-sub v1: "That was really amazing."
J-sub v2: "That was really arousing."

Original: "So I will go ahead and defuse him..."
J-sub v1: "I should go and extract him"
J-sub v2: "Let's put him back to normal before he awakens."

Original: "(unintelligible mumbling while Hal is trapped behind the bed)"
J-sub v1: "(did not translate this)"
J-sub v2: "Hey, I'm in the bed!"

(Okay, this is pretty awesome. Though v1 had the forget-me stick translated as "wasurenasai bou" (please forget stick), this version has it translated as "wasurenbou" (忘れん棒), which is like "forgetful stick". However, this same word, written as "忘れん坊", means "senile person", so it ends up being a pun)

Original: "A potter couldn't ask for finer clay."
J-sub v1: "(did not translate this line)"
J-sub v2: "This is like suddenly demanding high-level magic in Harry Potter."

Original: "No freakin' way!"
J-sub v1: "No way!"
J-sub v2: "This sucks, I hate this!"

Original: "(this line did not exist)"
J-sub v1: "(this line did not exist)"
J-sub v2: "Let's go, Donkey Kong!"

Original: "This is Roxanne Ritchi, cautiously optimistic, and pleasantly confused."
J-sub v1: "This is Roxanne Ritchi, cautiously optimistic with comfortable mixed feelings."
J-sub v2: "Cautious yet optimistic, complicated yet comfortable, this is Roxanne Ritchi."

(No comparison, I just want to point out how this was actually written in the subtitle)
Minion: "名付けて BlackMambaaaaaaa...aaaa...aaa."

Original: "If I didn't know any better, I'd think this was your first day of being evil."
J-sub v1: "If I lacked judgment, I'd be about to think that this was your first time doing something bad."
J-sub v2: "This doesn't apply to only you, but I'd think this was your first teenage rebellion."

Original: "Well that seems kind of petty, don't you think?"
J-sub v1: "Don't you think that's trivial?"
J-sub v2: "I see, you look at their true nature, right?"

Original: "Because you're the smartest person I know."
J-sub v1: "Because of all the people I know, you're the smartest."
J-sub v2: "Because you're so wise."

Original: "You know, I think an apology is in order for the other night."
"Okay, that would be nice, but make it quick. We have much more pressing matters to deal with."
J-sub v1: "As for the other night, I think there should be a proper apology."
"That sounds good. But, do it quickly. There are a lot of things that must be done in a hurry."
J-sub v2: "About the other night... Do you have any intention of apologizing properly?"
"I'd like to... but we have to hurry. We have to deal with why the copper didn't work quickly."

Original: "We were kinda going through the motions."
J-sub v1: "We were only trying to make the actions happen."
J-sub v2: "I was being kind, but you were trying to end me."
(t/n: These kinds of sentences are hard to translate since you don't put adjectives on pronouns in English, but this was literally "you were trying to end the kind me.")

Original: "So, you're the punk I've heard about."
J-sub v1: "According to what I've heard, seems you're a delinquent."
J-sub v2: "It seems that you've become unnecessary."

Original: "Pretty sneaky, sis."
J-sub v1: "You sure were sneaky."
J-sub v2: "What a girly man."

Original: "Normally, I'd chalk this up to my last great failure."
J-sub v1: "If this was usual, this would be my last brilliant failure becoming pallid."
J-sub v2: "Normally, I'd be blue in the face over my last honorable failure (but he was blue to start with lol)"
(The comment was there originally. Though they're making a pun out of a mistranslated line (seems that they're interpreting "chalk" as "chalky", i.e. "pale white"))

Minion: "You keep derailing, runaway train. It looks like you frequently need time to yourself."
Bernard: "This is the absolute worst day of my life."
Minion: "Don't worry (since the forget me stick is here!)"
(The comment was there in the original, too. And... what the HELL was he trying to imply by that first line? "Oh my, Sir is keeping strange men in his washing machine... I should leave him alone...)

Sorry not much towards the end, but most of the stuff there was the same as before, or was changed to something that made more sense. But there's plenty of extra WTF to tide us over.

for science!, discussion: international, for the lulz
