The 22'nd chapter of my Megamind and Wicked cross
Chapter 21 Chapter 1 **********************************************************************************************
Megamind noted that the scarecrow never told any of the travelers of his tailing them. Whether it was out of concern for worrying Dorothy or because she figured it would lower his threat in concern toward them, he wasn’t sure. What he was sure of was that she would come looking for him whenever she had to search for food. He didn’t want there to be too many chance encounters, it was too painful for him to see her up close, so he would place food in obvious locations near their camp for the tin man to find.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to talk to her, he truly did, and it was simply that he couldn’t let himself believe what he so desperately wanted to. This was a talking scarecrow, a creature made from magic … most likely crafted from a servant of the Wizard himself, someone sent to torture him in his already torturous life.
The travelers had brought themselves all the way to the Emerald City after his plan to render them unconscious and steal the shoes without harming them had failed at the hands of Glimmer. Why Glimmer seemed to resent him so much, he had no idea. Yet now they had entered the city and Megamind decided it was time to scare them again. He smirked as he brought out a smoky concoction so that as he traveled through the sky, it would leave a message …. “Surrender Dorothy”
That seemed to adequately scare the citizens of Oz, it was humorous how all he had to do was fly above the city for them to scatter and shriek as though the world was coming to an horrific ending by his most evil hands. He heard an evil cackle ringing through the air and realized … it was him. He was enjoying this immensely, more than he had ever enjoyed terrorizing the city before, perhaps because now it seemed the only thing he had left.
However, his scare tactics didn’t seem enough, for Dorothy was allowed to see the Wizard not five minutes later. He pouted on his jet broom, still flying high above the city and wondered what the Wizard would tell them. He wondered what lies the Wizard would spread this time and what he would ask them do to … for the Wizard always wanted something from you before he would even consider trying to help you in return.
When the travelers left the city, he learned that they had been sent on a mission to recover … his broomstick! He felt his fingers tighten around the shaft of it … as though that treacherous little girl hadn’t already taken enough from him … he would rather see his jet broom destroyed before seeing it in the hands of such a … such a wicked little girl!
He knew what he had to do … he needed to see the Wizard. Since he had already turned on the invisibility feature of his jet broom, it was quite simple to sneak into the Wizard’s chambers … to the large room where the Wizard himself was supposed to reside. That’s when he saw a man hunched over, looking at something.
Megamind looked down at his disguise watch and had a sudden idea; he scanned in the wizard’s appearance and switched it on before walking up to him. The Wizard turned around the raised a brow at him. He tilted his head, to which Megamind mirrored, he mirrored every move the Wizard made until he said, “Hello, Megamind”
Megamind frowned, “How did you know it was me?”
“I’ve only ever seen eyes like yours on two people and you’re the only one I believe capable of being able to take on other people’s forms”
Megamind reached down and switched off the disguise, that was useless, “Why do you want my broom stick?”
The Wizard smiled, “It fascinates me, I’d love to study it and learn how much you’ve improved the machinations I introduced to the world of Oz”
Megamind’s featured seemed to sharpen, “You would wish to study my technology at the price of my life?”
The Wizard’s smile faded, “You always work against me, Megamind … it would be different if you worked with me”
Megamind sighed, “What would you have me do? Forget about Animals and side with you?”
The Wizard’s smile returned, only it seemed harsher this time, “Animals are of little concern to me.”
Megamind shook his head, “I could never forget my purpose”
“I could give you everything you’ve ever wanted”
“Haven’t we had this discussion before?”
“Megamind … you are destined for greatness … don’t let a bunch of Animals stand in your way. Think of what you could do for the citizens of Oz”
“Lie to them, like you have?”
“It’s the lies people want to hear and besides, where I come from people believe all sorts lies … they call it history. A man is called a traitor or liberator, a rich man is a thief or philanthropist. Is one a crusader or ruthless invader? It’s all on what label is able to persist! They call me wonderful … so I am and with my help you could be the same”
Megamind shook his head; he couldn’t believe the ridiculousness of what the Wizard was saying to him.
“I could turn back the time, Megamind; I could bring them back … those you’ve lost. I can see them on your face, the weariness, the desolation and heartbreak. I could take away all the pain”
He badly wanted to erase the heartbreak … for all the time he spent in loneliness to be gone, “I … I can’t”
The Wizard’s face softened as he reached for something in his jacket, “Here” he brought out a small blue bottle and reached it out toward Megamind, “Perhaps this will change your mind”
Megamind looked at it and his eyes widened … miracle elixir. It couldn’t be possible, he grabbed the bottle suddenly, “Where did you get this?” he reached into his belt pocket and took out his own, older bottle. Next to each other they were nearly identical.
The Wizard gasped when he saw the second bottle, “Where did … How did …”
“It was my mother’s”
“Who … who was your mother?”
Megamind looked up at him, “Madame Melanie Warden”
The Wizard’s mouth dropped, “Did she used to live in munchkin land … the wife of a minister?” Megamind nodded, feeling suddenly uneasy holding the bottles in his hands. The Wizard reached out and took his bottle back, leaving the older bottle with Megamind, “I’m afraid I knew your mother”
“You gave her the bottle?”
“I did … we … I had to leave because she realized … she didn’t want her husband … Megamind, you were premature, were you not?” The Wizard looked surprised and nervous
Megamind stumbled back and tripped over his own cape, almost falling into something before the Wizard reached out to grab him. In the scuffle of trying not to fall in the sickly green liquid that lied in a pool beside them, the Wizard tripped over and grabbed Megamind’s cape. It was mortifying as the Wizard fell into the acid, the bottom of Megamind’s cape following him. He heard the Wizard’s screams echoing through the large room and saw the liquid working its way up his cape. He knew right then he had only one choice if he wished to live and untied his cape, letting it fall into the acid along with the Wizard.
He fell to his knees and looked at the bubbling liquid. He couldn’t believe what had just happened … the Wizard of Oz … was dead.
