The Fourteenth Chapter of my Megamind and Wicked Cross
Chapter One Chapter Thirteen *********************************************************************************************
A brainbot flew over to him and tapped his shoulder, he waved it away. He was finishing up on Roxanne’s bindings, he sighed when the brainbot continued tapping on him. He turned to look, “What?” the brainbot was holding something … a book with his face on it, that must have been why the bot tried to give it to him. He took it, “Where did you get this?”
The brainbot pointed over to something, Megamind looked … Roxanne’s purse. He sighed; “You’re not supposed to snoop through her things” The brainbot looked down with an ashamed ‘bowg’. Megamind looked back down at the book, since when was he western bound? Wicked … did that mean she finally believed he was? He found that somewhat disappointing, though he wasn’t sure why … hadn’t he spent the past three years trying to convince her he was evil? Why would being successful feel wrong?
Worse … why did he want to read this book? He tapped his fingers along the cover and looked over at her. She’d be out longer than usual; he’d used more knock out gas since she’d forced him to kidnap two people he wanted to make sure he had enough time to make adjustments. He sat down on a nearby chair and starting skimming through the book.
He didn’t like it … it was talking about chaos, wickedness, infatuation, and yet nothing about Animals. He sighed and closed his eyes; did she really think that was why he did what he did? She didn’t use to … when did it change? He looked up at her and was suddenly very agitated by the fact she was unconscious. He ran over to his faucet and filled a glass with water before returning to her.
He poured the glass on her face and started tapping at her cheeks, why wouldn’t she wake up? “Wake up!” then she started twitching, “Yes, princess, it’s morning, it’s time to open your eyes” she looked up at him with squinted eyes and groaned
“What is it?”
He grabbed the book from the chair he had left earlier, “What is this?”
She looked at it, “It’s a book, and I thought someone with a brain the size of yours would be able to figure that out”
He growled, throwing the book down, “Why do you have it?”
She blinked, her eyes widening, “I bought it”
He turned away from her and put his hands on his face, “Why did you buy it?”
“I wanted you to see it”
He turned back towards her, putting his hands on the table next to her, “Why?”
She almost gasped at the look in his eyes; he looked so angry, “I … saw a person selling trinkets about you”
He slammed his fist next to her and she jumped, “Could you just answer my question?”
“They … there … they don’t know”
“What?”
“About the Animals … they don’t know about the Animals. I wanted you to know because then you could do something about it”
He took a step back, his eyes widening in confusion, “You bought it to tell me that people don’t know why I do what I do?”
She nodded, “I needed to you to know”
He looked down, his expression softening, “You don’t think that about me?”
“I … never read the book, Megamind … I don’t know what you’re talking about”
He looked up at her, “You don’t think I do what I do just for attention?”
A soft smile formed on her lip, “I think you got enough attention before you started all this”
He looked over at the person tied up next to her, “Who…” he started as he wiped some of the girl’s shaggy bond hair out of her face. His eyes widened, “I thought…” He cleared his throat, “I thought Bernadette was palace bound, how’d you get her to come to the city”
Roxanne looked over at where Bernadette was bound up next to her, “Oh, she wanted to talk to you, Megamind”
His eyes widened and he looked over at one of his brainbots, “Lock the doors”
He ran across the room and picked up a knife, “Megamind, what are you doing?”
When he came back he began to cut Bernadette free of the bindings, “It’s Bernadette … I know it’s been a while, but the Bernadette I knew wouldn’t go wandering off through my lair if I didn’t want her to”
Then he dashed off again, but this time he came back with a glass of water and poured it on Bernadette’s face before tapping at her cheeks, “Bernadette, wake up!” Bernadette started to twitch and he sighed, “Does everyone have to wake up so slow?”
“This had better be water” Bernadette blinked her eyes open and looked at him
He laughed, “What are you going to do if it’s not?”
“Oh, I’ll find a way to repay you, don’t worry about that” she looked around, “We’re still inside”
He shrugged dismissively “Oh … I won’t be going through with my plan today”
Bernadette’s brows furrowed, “Why is that?”
“Not important” he waved his hand, “How have things been for you these past eight years?”
She smiled, “Well … I missed you a lot, it was hard losing my best friend without even a goodbye … but I’ve had a really nice life otherwise. What about you?”
He sighed, “I missed you too, and maybe there were times I thought about going back because of it. There definitely were … it’s been rough, I haven’t accomplished what I set out for,” a small smile graced his lips, “I’m sure if I had your advice on my side I would be doing a lot more for my cause”
“I’m sorry” Bernadette reached out to put a hand on his shoulder in a comforting gesture “I wish I could have been there for you”
He straightened up, “You do realize you’re talking to the Wicked Warlock of the West?”
Bernadette chuckled, “Yes, I realize”
