Chapter one Chapter Three **************************************************
Megamind was heading off to the wonderful university of Shiz, the best university in all of Oz. He had been accepted on the merits of his brilliance and importance, granted his family had failed to mention his irregularities. He was the heir to the throne of Munchkin land; he would one day become the leader there. He felt certain nervousness, somehow that might not matter at all, he felt they might just take one look at him and send him home despite the fact they had accepted him other than his disturbing appearance. He knew, however, the world was not unbiased but severely judgmental when it came to how a person looked; so a ride home was very possible.
He knew also that although he was supposed to be the heir, his parents favored his younger brother and he was much more likely to become the leader. This didn’t bother him, or at least that’s what he tried to tell himself. Yet right now he wished he looked normal, normal enough so that when he came to this school they would look at him and accept him. Perhaps though, they would anyway? A hope he knew was desperate, he knew it was unlikely that they would take him with his horrible disfigurements.
Galimer had gotten into the eminent university of Shiz through the help of his noble Gilikinese family. The Gilikinese were invulnerable beings with abilities of superior prowess. He wasn’t the brightest of students, but he didn’t really think that knowledge was important when he had his reputation to flaunt.
Galimer had been blessed with a sense of moral righteousness, the ability to fly, laser vision, super strength with a figure to show it, a dazzling smile, and perfect hair. He knew he deserved to come to this school, he was looking forward to it except that he hoped it would not be too demanding on his intellect, for he was definitely lacking in that department.
The school was as important and legendary as his family, a perfect way to start a perfect life. He hoped he could find a perfect girl at Shiz, someone with a reputation to equal his own. He knew he would be a most important figure in all historical documents, like the members of his family, but he hoped even more so. He also knew that who he married would be important in that respect; he needed someone prominent, someone important, and someone … beautiful.
Megamind’s suitcase had gotten stuck in the upper compartment, by the time it came loose everyone else had left. The fact that no one had helped him didn’t really bother him, he had expected that. He made his way into the school and hurried to the main hall where he heard the sound of students singing:
“O hallowed halls and vine-draped walls
The proudliest sight there is
When grey and sere our hair hath turned
We shall still revere the lessons learned
In our days at…”
Everyone stopped singing the moment Megamind came into the room, even though he hadn’t opened any doors or made any noise. They stared at him with eyes, some showing fascination or surprise, more showing the disgust and anger he had expected. The woman at the front, however, had her back turned to him and was unaware of his entrance, her song was left uninterrupted.
“Dear old Shiz” She cleared her throat and looked at the shocked students in front of her, whatever could have made them loose attention so quickly. She turned around to see the large headed, blue student behind her. She gasped and saw him flinch, “Is there something you need mister … mister … uh…”
“Megamind” He crossed his arms in front of his chest, hoping this wasn’t leading where he thought it was … a ride home.
“Oh” she sighed, “I wasn’t aware you were uh … what exactly are you?”
“I’m a munchkin”
She raised an eyebrow, “One of the taller ones, then, that isn’t so strange. I remember now, you’re the son of Madame Melanie, a good family” she looked him up and down and sighed, “You are the son of the younger daughter of the ruler in munchkin land. I believe you and your siblings are heirs to the throne. Quite an important family place for a young man to be born; you have been roomed with another heir, the prince of the Gilikinese.”
She wasn’t going to send him home! He was going to be able to stay here and attend; he smiled widely which made the woman make an awkward kind of uncomfortable expression. He didn’t care, however, he was going to be allowed to stay here, and that was all that mattered.
At first Galimer thought it was a joke, it couldn’t be possible. He, the prince of the Gilikinese was going to have to share a room with this horribly disfigured student, surely not. Yet realizing that it was not a joke, he knew he had only one chance to try and change her mind.
Desperately Galimer raised his hand and began to approach the mad old woman, “Madame Morrible, I think there’s been a mistake”
She raised an eyebrow at him, “A mistake? Whatever do you mean? You are the heir to the Gilikinese just as he is the heir to Munchkin land”
“What about the students like Brac, Tradint, or Limon? Couldn’t I be roomed with one of them?” Anyone would be better than this student; he was so grotesque and malformed.
“None of them have the same importance as this student, Galimer”
“It’s all right” Megamind interrupted, he was flattered she referred to him as important, but really, he wasn’t, “I don’t need to be roomed with him”
“I’m sorry, both of you, but I decide who rooms with who. The decision has already been made, changing it now would be too complicated and frankly, I don’t want to do it. I’m afraid you’re stuck with each other.”
