[This was taking too long. Wayne was running low on ammo and despite being out most of the day he hadn't found any supplies yet. There was still a couple weeks of food left at the safe-house, but they were running out of fuel for the power generator. Safe-houses with power were better than safe-houses without power.]
"Well, searching one more building couldn't hurt."
[Officer Scott opened the door least-ruined nearby building....
[...and then he was standing inside a completely intact well-lit building. Wayne hadn't seen anything like this since before the quarantine, and even then he was pretty sure Malton didn't have a building like this.
[Officer Scott tried to get some information out of the man at the front desk, but all he got was a key, some kind of pamphlet and instructions on where he could go to get some of that blood washed out of his uniform. At first the receptionist had tried to tell Wayne to just trash the clothes and get fresh replacements (which is what he had been doing with his t-shirt and pants, when he could find clean ones that fit) but Wayne refused to get rid of the top part of his uniform. It was the only thing he had left from before the quarantine and besides, it had his name on it.
[He didn't notice the sticker on the back of his form-fitting trousers boldly proclaiming that Officer Wayne Scott was, in fact, 'Officer Tightpants.']
