...Did... did that work?

*Tilt of his head at the human.* ...That's the sad thing. It did. And then I had to go through a giant robot press, the Robot Masters, and Wily's Fortress. If I see any of him around I'm going to tell him where he can shove his spikes.

*Don't think that because he's smaller he's less smart, either! A bit incredulously, he notices the name tag and it sinks in.* ...You're Rock?

Did he only attack once? My Wily made a hobby out of it in his last decade or so.

And... yeah. I'm Rock. I got turned human right before Wily croaked.

...and you're so... so... bite-sized tiny CUTE compact?

So far. Granted, it has only been a week since I got my brothers back to Light's lab... I wouldn't be surprised if he followed yours' example.

...Okay, first I learn you get turned into a fighting robot, and now you get turned human? What, being a normal robot was too boring to you?

I'm normal-sized where I come from. You're the ones as big as Wily's giant attack mechs. But I guess it's better than being called a plushie.

Be on your guard. Wily is... persistent.

I got the chance to turn human right before Wily died, like I said. It was... well, it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I didn't have a lot of time before I lost that chance. So I went for it, and, well...

It was kind of a stupid decision at the time, in retrospect. But now I'm happy I made it.

And... wow. I never imagined there'd be a world where proportions were different like that.

I got that when he came out of the machine I just thrashed and started making a new one out of it right on the spot instead of giving up.

That doesn't sound like a stupid decision. Strange, but not stupid.

I never thought there was a world where everything's so freakishly huge, so I suppose we're even.

I swear to god Rock tells this story in EVERY CONVERSATION XD 2ndgenlight May 4 2009, 05:14:26 UTC
wait until you finish thrashing his machine when suddenly he jumps out and turns into an alien. The alien is fake though.

It was a stupid decision because... Dr. Wily was the one making the offer. *wince*

XD Well this time he's gonna meet someone who DOESN'T REACT THE SAME WAY AS EVERYONE proto_hero May 4 2009, 05:32:58 UTC
What? Next you're telling me he's going to built a double of me to screw with everyone's heads. *raises hands to mimic Wily's hairstyle* "Look at how your hero has joined my side, bwahahaha!"

...And? You made it back out alive, didn't you?

Well, actually... uh... well, we learned it wasn't really you at the end!

...Barely. But yeah.

...Okay, that's it, I'm going to nip this in the bud and just get rid of him.

Then the idea would only have been stupid if you died. *A tiny smirk on the tiny Proto's face* That you had the strength it takes to live just means it's another fight won.

How do you deal with having a lifespan?

Well, I didn't meet you until around the time of Wily's third attack, and you didn't know who I was. So maybe your future's already different.

You know, your the first Blues to tell me that. My brother -- well, he hasn't said anything about it in a while, but I can tell he's still angry that I'm not going to survive more than seventy years or so, while he's going to be around much longer. My brother and most of the alternates I've run into share that perspective.

You'd think having a lifespan would be frightening, but there's a lot less uncertainty in my life. I used to wonder what I was going to do after Dr. Light... died, if I was going to do more than just survive each century after the war was over.

But now I know what I'll be doing. I'll still be working, while maybe settling down and having a couple kids. And then when I'm gone, they'll still be there -- and part of me will live on.

that's not enough for my brother, though, it seems...

You haven't met me yet where I'm from, either. But that I'm the one who went up against Wily instead of you tends to make me agree with you.

If they're anything like me, it's pretty hypocritical of them... It's your life, your own decisions, and no one should have the right to choose for you. I'm a bit relieved that you're not a robot any longer, to be honest.

So you're taking to the lifespan thing well, that's nice to know. What do you do for work?

Sorry that your brother's got a stick up his rear port.

Really? I was always the one going up against Wily, and you kinda stayed on the sidelines and bailed me out when things got too hot. ...Or hid out in the robot masters' fortresses and battled me at really inconvenient times like Gary Oak

I can see why he's angry. It's my choice, yeah, but I do feel bad for leaving him behind like that. I've seen a lot of death in my profession, and very few people take it lightly.

I'm a doctor. A heart surgeon, specifically. I spent so much time in the hospital the first few years after I turned human that I kind of got inspired by the other doctors to follow their lead -- that, and I'd have a way to help Dr. Light if his health started failing, the way he was always there for me when I was damaged.

He's a big softie underneath, I'm sure of it.

I suppose I could have done that, but, well... I was already there when he snuck in Light's lab to make off with my brothers. and it definitely wasn't because I was in a snit over these plans for a fighting robot that were way too close to me for comfort

I guess, but I live more in the moment than a future I might or might not even get to.

That's... neat. Probably not something just about anyone can do, though, right?

That's the punchline to that joke involving a robot and a metal saw.

So wait, you did that to keep me from becoming a fighting robot?

I think like that, too. Especially as a human, you never know when your plans will be derailed by... anything, really.

And yeah. It's... difficult, sometimes. It's hard to accept that you can't save everyone. :/

*Tiny Proto is tiny-ly defensive.* There's no reason people should send a clueless household bot to the front lines when there's a perfectly able combat model there to do the work.

The world's always had a tendency to throw curved ones at you, hasn't it.

...That's pretty deep, coming from you. Heh...
