Character Name: Lemina Ausa
Character Series: Lunar 2: Eternal Blue
Character Age: 16
Background: The brief Wikipedia version. The longer, Lemina-centric version is as follows:

To understand Lemina's history requires understanding the history of her home city, Vane. It was a magical metropolis built on a floating island, and in its prime it was considered the most renowned city on the planet Lunar. The city was governed by the Magic Guild of Vane, which served as a school for mages and which owned the most extensive historic library to be found on Lunar. And the Guild was governed by the Ausa family, in particular the guildmistress Lemia Ausa, one of the legendary Four Heroes of Lunar.

However, the island, the city, and the Guild itself had a secondary purpose: a magical battle station established to protect the Goddess Tower, central sanctuary of the Goddess Althena. And the day came that the Goddess Tower was threatened, and Vane defended it. The battle resulted in the fall of Vane, both figuratively and literally. But in the aftermath, Lemia's daughter Mia Ausa took charge in beginning the restoration of the city.

Centuries passed, and the city fell into ruin and debt. The streets were cracked and broken. Buildings were torn down and never rebuilt. And, needless to say, the city never flew again. This run-down city was the Vane that Lemina grew up in.

Lemina's mother and only living family, Miria Ausa, worked to maintain Vane but was particularly soft-hearted in doing so. She remained calm and hopeful that things would turn around for the city, all while selling off priceless heirlooms to barely afford its upkeep. Meanwhile, thieves and other scavengers visited the city just to see if there were any treasures of the old Vane hiding in the run-down guild. Lemina grew up seeing the disastrous effects of her mother's passive attitude, and thus adopted a proactive one: she was going to raise money to restore Vane to its former glory by any means necessary. And no one was going to walk all over her the way they walked over her mother.

As part of the young girl's mission, Miria granted Lemina the title of Junior Premier of the Magic Guild of Vane. The Guild's membership had steeply declined over the years, and with it funds had dropped to a trickle. Thus, Lemina decided that the best way to revitalize Vane's culture and revenue would be to restore the Guild. However, this was a harder task than it sounded: by that point, Lemina was the last remaining member. And despite her attempts to recruit new members, no one seemed interested in joining a dead Guild. She was alone.

But she was a mage on a mission. When her latest scheme failed to recruit anyone, she brainstormed until she came up with a better one. Over and over.

It took a stroke of madness genius to finally latch onto some new recruits: She dressed up in a cloak and posed as a fortune teller, set up shop in a town that happened to have a roadblock, and told fortunes as she waited for someone with strong magic to show up. And one did, a woman who was traveling with a rag-tag bunch of misfits on some kind of adventure. When the guards at the roadblock denied them passage, Lemina showed them a "shortcut" through the mountains, a path which lead straight to a haunted mansion. Inside she had set up a specialized piece of magical equipment, the Mega Magic Tester (which looked like a giant wind-up clown, but that's not really important). The group fought the Magic Tester and won. With that, Lemina told them that they had passed the entrance exam to the Magic Guild of Vane and insisted that they join immediately.

Despite all the effort she had gone through to catch their attention, the group declined her offer, explaining that they had a more important mission at hand. Lucia, the woman who had attracted Lemina's attention in the first place, needed to be escorted to the holy city of Pentagulia to meet with the Goddess Althena. Lemina was not willing to give up these recruits, so she decided she had no choice but to help them complete this mission. Once that was out of the way, they would have no excuse not to join.

She had no idea what she was actually getting into. Lucia was on the run from Althena's Guard, purported to be a Destroyer from another world. But Lucia claimed the world was in grave danger, and that she needed to meet with Althena to save it. Either way, something big was up, and the fate of Lunar hung in the balance.

But Lemina was not about to be distracted from her goals. On the way to Pentagulia, she pushed them into visiting Vane, only to find that the city had been occupied by the Black Wizard Borgan, one of four who had reclaimed the title of the Four Heroes and served directly under Althena. Lemina herself was barred entry. So, she snuck them in through the Spring of Transmission, a magical teleportation station that had been used to enter Vane when it still flew. However, she was too late: Borgan, who was enamored with Lemina's mother, kidnapped her and left to rule his new city Neo-Vane. Alone and helpless, Lemina ran to the roof of the Guild, crying inconsolably.

Not for a lack of trying from her new friends, though. Despite how terribly she had treated them, they all did their best to cheer her up and volunteer their help. "Because that's what friends do for each other!" With this, Lemina realized she had made far better friends than she had ever deserved. Together, they would work together to save Lunar.

They continued to Pentagulia, where Lucia was granted audience with Althena. And the truth finally came forward: this "Althena" was a fake, an imposter granted power by the dark god Zophar. After discovering this, the group was nearly captured but fought their way to freedom. Their next quest was to release the seals on the four Dragons, who would be able to grant them entry to the fifth tower of Pentagulia, where Althena was supposedly sealed. And as it happened, the Black Wizard Borgan was holding the Aura of the Black Dragon. Fate was leading them to the doorstep of Neo-Vane.

The city of Neo-Vane, much like the Vane of old, was a majestic city that floated in the sky. However, this one was not an island but an artificial structure crafted of black crystals. When they arrived, the group underwent a screening process, and two members of their party who were not very magically-inclined were cast into a pit. This pit led to the mines of Zaback, where "commoners" worked as slaves mining magic crystals to power the city of Neo-Vane. Lemina was horrified at this, particularly that any city that enslaved fellow humans would have the gall to use the name of Vane. It was a disgusting mockery of everything Vane had once stood for.

After rescuing her two friends, they found a secret entrance to the Guildhouse of Neo-Vane and confronted Borgan. The Black Wizard was convinced he had made a magical utopia, and would prove it to Lemina with the power he had cultivated. He attacked Lemina and her friends, and ultimately was defeated by the group of heroes. They took the Black Dragon's Aura from Borgan, and at once, the man lost all his power. They then left to find and rescue Lemina's mother, finding that she was not only unharmed but had been treated like royalty.

However, a new problem quickly arose: Without the Black Dragon's magic supporting it, Neo-Vane could no longer fly, and had already begun to fall. Borgan demanded that Lemina turn the Black Dragon Aura and her mother back over to him at once, or else forever live with the blood of everyone in Neo-Vane on her hands. But there was a much simpler solution than that provided by Lemina's own friends. Lucia was able to command the power of the Black Dragon as well and used the Aura to slow Neo-Vane's descent to a gentle stop.

Now powerless and with no more tricks up his sleeve, Borgan accepted his defeat. His whole life, he had never been anything more than a failure, envying the magicians of Vane and wishing he could learn to use that same power. He did not want to continue such a meaningless existence and asked Lemina to finish him off.

And, to his surprise, she apologized. She had finally come to understand the true purpose of the Magic Guild of Vane. It was not merely there to cultivate the talents of its magicians. It was also there to lend its powers to those who did not have it. Just as Vane had assisted the Goddess Tower in times of old, so did the magicians of Vane need to assist all people of Lunar. She then did the unthinkable, and asked Borgan to assist her in the reconstruction of the Guild.

But there was still a greater mission at hand to be settled. The party freed the Black Dragon, as well as the other three dragons. The four attacked the city and revealed the Fifth Tower that lay beneath, none other than the Goddess Tower that Vane had once defended. They entered, and found a message left behind by Althena: She was no longer alive in this world. The goddess had found that the longer she existed, the more humans became reliant on her power and doubted their own. Thus, she surrendered her immortality, and lived a final, mortal life. But the power Lucia needed to accomplish her mission was right at her side. Humans possessed a miraculous power of their own, and if she trusted in it, even a dark god such as Zophar would be no match for it.

Lucia could not trust in it. Instead, she summoned all of Althena's power that had dispersed throughout humanity, and went to fight Zophar alone. During the fight, another horrible truth came to light: Althena's power would destroy Zophar, but it would also wipe all life from the face of Lunar in the process. Lucia did not have the heart to go through with it, and was captured, and with it all the power of Althena.

And then, just as Lemina and Borgan were poring through the books looking for a way to recover magic, just as all humanity was preparing for the worst, a strange miracle occurred. Magic came back on its own. Rather, a second source had filled in when Althena's power disappeared. It was something very internal, something that spread throughout humanity as they shared their trust and their prayers. Armed with this power of humanity, Lemina and her friends challenged Zophar and won, saving Lunar.

After that? Lemina buckled down and got back to work rebuilding the Magic Guild of Vane. This time, however, she was not alone.

Personality: Lemina is a person who is difficult to like, especially at first. She's energetic and outgoing to the point of seeming overbearing. She is pushy, single-minded and selfish. She seems to have none of the nobility expected of magicians of Vane but all of the arrogance and vanity. In short, she comes across as someone who very badly needs to get over herself.

However, she's not rotten to the core. In fact, if you get to know her, you might find she's a pretty ordinary girl. At heart, she cares deeply about her mother and the city of Vane, her own history and heritage. And she simply can't stand people taking advantage of someone she cares about. That's one reason why she ended up becoming so pushy: to avoid having others push her around, the way her mother always seemed to be. Her attitude has driven away most would-be friends, and thus she often feels alone and unsupported in her endeavors. She tends to cry easily, though she tries hard to hide this, being far too proud to let people see her timid and lonesome side. Don't worry, though! No matter what chip is on her shoulder, she'll always bounce back somehow.

Her style is a little cutesy and weird. For example, she avoids vulgar words but she has no dearth of alternatives, such as calling someone a turd or a panty-wad. She also has a distinct habit of using "mega" as a prefix for emphasis. She loves to wink at people when she smiles, even when she doesn't have a reason to. Her idea of a cute monster is a green, one-eyed fish with three purple antennae called a Gorgon, and she just so happens to own a plush doll of one, a precious Ausa family heirloom. Instead of a rubber ducky, she bathes with a set of toy piggy banks.

Her love of money knows no bounds. It started as a need for a staggering amount of cash to rebuild Vane, but at some point it turned into nothing short of obsession. She's the sort of girl whose diary reads like an account book and who tries to charge people for acts of courtesy. She's developed an eye for luxury and a head for money-making, and she does not make any attempt to hide her greed. To her, the most attractive quality a person can have is being rich.

She is exceptionally good at studying and has a secret passion for books. You can often find her sitting in a nice but secluded spot buried in a good novel, or perhaps nose-deep in a huge textbook in the library. If she's really studying hard, you might catch her wearing her glasses: she has a slight vision problem, and while she can see without her glasses, her eyes get tired after reading long periods of time without them. She also enjoys writing, though she doesn't allow anyone to peek in her diary, and you can just forget about trying to read any of the poems she's written. At any rate, she's what some might call a closet geek, not showing her studious side outwardly if she can help it. But even she won't deny that she's quite intelligent. Her favorite subjects are math (particularly finances), history, and - of course! - magic.

Abilities: Lemina is a mage, and an extremely powerful one at that. Despite being only 16 years old, her raw talent and quick learning ability have made her something of a magical prodigy. The primary limitations on her magic are her level of concentration - meaning a poorly-timed sneeze is all it takes to ruin a spell - and her inner reserve of magic energy, which a genre-savvy character would recognize as her MP gauge. If she runs out of energy, she can recharge it either via prayer to Althena or by sleeping.

Her spells can be divided like so:
  • Fire Magic:
    • Flame Shot - Summons a fireball, hits one opponent - 8 MP
    • Pyro Pillar - Summons a column of flames, hits a group of opponents - 14 MP
    • Crematorium - Summons a rain of fire, hits all opponents in range - 34 MP
    • Power Drive - Infuses one ally with the power of fire magic, boosting their attack - 18 MP
  • Ice Magic:
    • Ice Arrows - Summons icicle projectiles, hits one opponent - 16 MP
    • Ice Wall - Summons a column of icicles, hits a group of opponents - 21 MP
    • Freeze Smash - Summons a torrent of ice, hits all opponents in range - 20 MP
    • Cryo-Shield - Infuses one ally with the power of ice magic, boosting their defense - 16 MP
  • Mystic Magic:
    • Magic Swiper - Siphons magic power away from an opponent and uses it to replenish Lemina's power - 1 MP
    • Magic Shield - Creates a protective barrier that boosts the magical resistance of anyone standing within a certain area - 18 MP
    • Mega Seal - Seals away the magical abilities of anyone standing within a certain area - 9 MP
    • Erase Magic - Negates all other magic in area, including her own, preventing any magic abilities or spells from working - 18 MP
Mystic Magic, which can be considered magic with power over magic itself, also has a variety of practical purposes such as allowing her to permanently enchant mundane objects and to activate the dormant powers of magical objects.
  • Et. Cetera:
    • Catastrophe - Lemina's most powerful spell, as well as by far the most costly in terms of both magic energy and collateral damage, meaning she will not be using it without reason. It is classified separately because it incorporates too many different types of magic, even ones that she would not have access to normally. In short, it is a spell that creates a calamity of raw magic that consumes the surrounding area: fire and lightning will rain down from the sky, torrents of freezing water will flood the ground, and the earth will crack open and magical hellfire will erupt from the fissures. - 55 MP
She also owns a great variety of magical heirlooms, most notably her enchanted coin purse that supposedly boosts one's luck in earning money. Some others that have been seen include a flying carpet, a parasol that defends against both the sun and magical attacks, plush toys that boosts certain abilities of the holder, and a giant magical wind-up clown.
