New Car: Take 3

May 30, 2009 21:19

Thought I'd mention this just for the sake of having a consistent journal to look back on someday.  You don't have to read it.

After mom tried to get a new car, then failed, we got a used car for me, from jolly ol' CarMax.  I liked my vaguely gold-ish 2008 Kia Rondo which I named Aurora.  I was all happy as a clam with it.

But it smelled of gas, and thus was faulty, and mom was convinced that every person in the car industry was a flat talk-outta-their-ass liar, and so we used the 5 day return policy and gave it back.  *sniffle*  Good-bye, Aurora the kinda gold-ish car.  I hardly knew ye.  I shall miss your large storage spaces.

But since we came in early for our service appointment and had to wait HOURS for actual salespeople to arrive, we looked at other cars, seeing as how I still needed one.  Drove quite a few.  And it was the very last one, the "oh hey, what about this one that we're only just now spotting that we've done no research on right here by the door" car.  After hours of being underwhelmed, and being underwhelmed AND hungry, AND annoyed, AND in blazing hot Floridian sun no less, we tried it, and liked it.  No complaints.  Other than it was before cars started being made with a million air bags, so it only has the old standard front ones.  It's a 2005 Corolla, and whaddaya know, it's the exact same shade of vaguely gold-ish.

But I love it now.  I will never give it up.  It is my new best friend, (haven't needed to pay for gas yet) and it has no strange whistling air sounds like the Rondo did (that I was ignoring because I thought it was love).  I have named it Hyppolyta.  Don't know why it is, but absolutely no male names came to mind at all.  I guess large vessels of transportation are somehow female since their conception.  What a strange affliction.

Other notes:
1) Found a new manga series called Ral Grad drawn by Death Note (etc.) artist Takeshi Obata.  Thus it is gorgeous and has great visual moments.  But I'm not sure his art is enough to save the story.  It's a bit overly complex for a completely made up world and mythology, and the characters seem puerile and shallow.  I'm only halfway through it, and I'm trying to care, but I'm not sure I can make it.  And not sure it's worth seeking out the other two books that are out.  Shame, Obata m'man.

2) Darn you, Laura, for having a birthday tomorrow when I can't be there or have presents ready for you or anything.  I'll be calling you, just so you know.

3) "Taken" is a pretty awful movie.  Mom rented it.  5 minutes in, you can't WAIT for the cliched jackass of a daughter to be kidnapped.  And halfway through, you don't even like Liam Neeson's character any more, so you sit there and wait for it to be over, and when it is, you go "Gee, that was... 2 hours of predictable tripe".  And what the hell, Jean Grey, why are you cocking up this movie?  Now I blame you.

4) Still job-hunting, still slogging away.  Online job questionaires are RICOCKULOUS.  80 questions seemed like so many when I first started these things, until I went to Belk today and got 230.  I mean... SERIOUSLY.

That's all.  Cheers for the amount of "cock" use in this entry.  Perhaps it's my subconscious poking at me for not adding any in my recent fanart of Zak and Pips from Ferngully.

job maybe, fanart, movies, car, obata
