Tea Parties Done = Yay

Apr 25, 2009 11:00

So my watercolors of the new tea parties are done.  They look pretty smashing, if I do say so myself, but then I've always been good at copying things, and the English tea party was directly referenced from a googled image.  Oh well.  It's a game.  The Viz guy probably won't care anyhow.  The're posted up on DeviantART and on my website.  I'm ( Read more... )

Are you still re-doing all of the art that I did for it, then?

Okay, after phoning Bob and asking his advice on how to respond to all of this, I've decided to recant all of my honesty about the hurt and the dismay and all of that and try to settle this like a civilized human being. If you'll forgive my frankness, I know that you respond best to direct devout attention, and while my time is stretched thin these days and I can't very well afford to DO something like this... this problem has been months in the making, and if I don't deal with it now then it will never be dealt with.

Meg. You and I created this board game together, and the plan was that we would present it to Viz together. I would appreciate it if you would please not replace the original artwork that I created for this collaboration with your own for this pitch that we're going to do, as we are presenting it jointly and it would not be very fair to minimize one person's contribution in a group work. The editors should see what we created together, and I think that it would be incredibly unprofessional to present them with an after-the-fact altered version of our board game if we are indeed presenting it as a team.

As for the board, while I am still financially strapped at the moment, I am able to scrape together enough money to make a print of the board thanks to a generous donation from my mother and Emma's incoming reimbursement for this month's rent. I will print the fresh new board, and I will even print a nice spiral-bound minibook of the rules for the game for our presentation to Viz if you let me. Because of car trouble trapping me out of the house for two weeks, general terrible luck and my grant application for Japanese university, I have been unfortunately unable to assemble a portfolio for this coming Editor's Day as of yet, and I will have to head out to OfficeMax in order to print my work anyway. So, in for a penny in for a pound, yes?

Now, I would deeply appreciate your civility and cooperation on this. I feel that you have taken my unresponsiveness as a personal slight this past week, abut I recognize that you are likely rather lonely these days and that it was probably natural that you would interpret my curtness in-between internet hiatus times as a personal gesture rather than being reflective of the same treatment that any and all of my friends have been receiving these days. I have a busy, tumultuous life at the moment, and I apologize for not having had the time to speak to you more clearly sooner, and for not having been able to save you the time wasted on re-creating my artwork for the board game.

Please comment back to this ASAP.

I'm very, very sorry for the misunderstanding! I was never, ever intending to present VIZ with a board of all my own art! I was only ever redoing bits for my own personal board, and for my own personal use. The board for VIZ, cards, and rule book are all are still a completely joint effort, and aside from some edits to the rulebook for clarification and such, it is all just as we left it. And the game pieces are collaborative as well. (They came out great, by the way, so no worries there.) I am very, very sorry, again, for not making that clear. The board we show VIZ will be the original that we created, promise, promise, absolutely.

I realize now that your life is hectic, and I'm grateful that you've considered that I've been lonely. I can understand a hectic life, I really can, and I promise I will always be reasonable when it comes to this game and its chances.

Now I think it would be great if you made the new board print. The one I have already printed has mistakes in it, and it's gotten a bit roughed up with all the time that's passed. I do, however, plan to go to the print shops here, possibly tomorrow (definitely well before E-Day) to print out the rule book and the letter to leave behind with the VIZ guy. I've made several new edits to the rule book, just clarifying things, fixing typos, and also updating our entries in the back, showing that we've now graduated, etc.

I'm not saying you can't print the rulebook, but I have made the offer, and since I know you're tight on cash, plus it was always my part of the deal, I can save you that hassle, and I'll print it myself. And if you want me to, I will e-mail you the files as they are now, updated and all, and you can check that they're satisfactory. The letter, too. Is this okay?

I really don't want there to be any friction between us when we see each other in Savannah. I never meant to give that wrong impression.

So respond to this, or e-mail me (or call) and we'll work things out, okay?

Sorry again.
