Wonderful to see this book about to be released, especially at this price, and I've already pre-ordered. Pothos has some members who don't bother with LiveJournal, so I'm going to copy some of the Regina Books website information as well as linking to your LJ. I know of several members who will jump at buying this book once they see the list of articles!

Thank you!

I'd meant to go over to Pothos and post there, then got thoroughly distracted with a thesis defense and the chapter for ANOTHER book. (Responses to Alexander, the Cartledge/Greenland book that I have a chapter on Heph in.) Fun times in April for profs!

So yes, please post the information there. I and Tim would greatly appreciate it.

Oh, good news - this means Responses to Alexander is going to be published at last? Wasn't it originally set for around 2007? I thought Robin Lane Fox was involved, not Paul Cartledge? Can you tell us what's happening with it? I've been waiting to read this for so long, and would appreciate an update. Many thanks!

It's been in publishing hell. And yes, it should be out perhaps later this year. Fiona is in the final stages. Lane Fox was involved, then he wasn't. There's been general craziness with contributors dropping out, etc. Not really Fiona's fault, so much as war with publishers, although I don't really know the details.

But I do hope it eventually gets out because I wound up having a unique opportunity to kill two birds with one stone with the chapter on Hephaistion, addressing not just how he's often treated in fiction and scholarship, but to then show with a whole lot of documented evidence, exactly what he DID at the court. I know it won't convince some, but it might convince others.

Thank you for this. I checked with Amazon, and the projected publication date is January 2010, so it's only a few years late! They don’t list the articles, so I shall be interested to see if they differ (if at all) from the proposed contents list I saw when it was originally being published by Cambridge University Press. I'll be particularly looking forward to your article, given my own interest in Hephaistion, and especially his - and Alexander's - portrayal in fiction.

And is this the right place to ask if you are going to be updating your Beyond Renault site in the near future, since there's been more Alexander-related fiction published in the last couple of years, and I've always found the book list a very useful resource? (I realise it is something you do in your ‘spare’ time, and that you probably haven’t had much of that lately!)
