I see the name of my old ancient history professor and now I'm in the gripes of nostalgia for Classics...

And yes, the book does look surprisingly cheap for 13 articles. 0_o It's under $30!

Indeed! And this is -- IMNSHO -- an EXCEPTIONAL collection of articles. Some of these could have been taken to much more distinguished journals and been accepted. We were lucky to get them (and it shows the respect for Gene). Really a bargain for anybody interested in Macedonia.

Isn't there a word for a book/articles written for a tribute book, so to speak? I knew it once. I would be very grateful if you can remind me of it..It's very annoying that I can't remember...

Festschrift (festschriften, plural).

Notoriously hard to get them published, because they are -- as your icon says -- often a curious collection that's not as unified as most publishers like collections to be. Ours is a bit better on that score, fortunately. Well, at least all the articles except the last, which is a bit of an "outlier."
