shop assistants and Civil Unions

I will never be nasty to a shop assistant again - I now understand the pain of a tired foot.

I've been working at my new job, in a bookstore, fulltime since Sunday. It's actually quite fun - there is a certain satisfaction in locating a certain book a customer is looking for. some of their questions are very wierd though - I have been asked if we have pre-pay phone cards, bus timetables, internet packages... and for directions to just about every where in Wellington - including woman's refuge (the person in question wanted to buy their fundrasier x-mas cards!).

I know that labellementeuse at least has been keeping up with the Civil Union debate. I think the thing which worries and saddens me most is the extnet to which there is debate over the issue. As I approach it from the concept that all people are equal,  - a right which I feal should be assumed by all. Debates such as this one are evidnce that many, if not most, do not feal the same way - instead prefering to interfere in others lives.
