It takes a very special kind of moron to mock research using fruit flies as a model and say that such research is a waste of funding and time, in one of very few policy speeches you have made, when that very research is helping scientists understand a disorder one of your relatives suffers from.

By the way, propsective Vice-President of the United States, many of the breakthroughs we've had in understanding sex-linked inheritance and genetics in general (and this research won a Nobel Prize), developmental biology (another Nobel Prize), immunity, cancer, diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and autism, comes down to scientists poking around with fruit flies. I know, it's absolutely mindblowing!!! It's also something you learn in first year biology, maybe even in high school.
Oh wait, being educated makes me elitist, doesn't it. nm
