Kamui was born on the Yato homeworld, a dismal planet that never sees sunlight, and constantly rains and storms. The people on this planet are generally very poor, most of the race has to resort to becoming mercenaries for hire in order to live. Kamui grew up with his father, little sister, and mother. His father was always out trying to make money for the family, leaving Kamui, Kagura, and their mother at home. His mother was frail and sickly, and died while Umibouzo, their father, was away at work. After that, Kamui began to grow dark.
There was an old tradition for the Yato, called Father Slaying, and while it hadn't been practiced in ages, Kamui challenged his father, and his father accepted, as much as he did not want to. He ended up cutting his father's arm off, as well as taking severe damage himself, until his little sister, Kagura, interrupted them. After that, he left his family, saying that he had no use for weaklings.
While sporting a cheerful face, he gathered a group of mercenary Yato and called them the Thunder Guns, joining up with the Harusame Space Pirates Seventh Division, mainly becoming their frontline battle unit. It is said that four Yato warriors would equal one human army, and they showed this. The Harusame had them fighting the Joi, a nationalist group set in Japan, as well as smuggling drugs, getting humans and other Amanto addicted. Amanto are the aliens from other planets, when they invaded Japan twenty years prior.
Kamui's little sister, Kagura, left for Earth to make money for her family, and he met up with her again a few years later, in Yoshiwara, where he had been detailed to 'take care of' the current Yato leader there. Housen knew that Kamui and the Thunder Guns had come to kill him, and they fought. Kamui's First Mate, Abuto, and another Thunder Gun stopped the fight, but at the loss of Abuto's arm to Housen, and Kamui ended up killing his own comrade, the other Thunder Gun, when he stopped him. After this, Kamui watched Gintoki, the protagonist of the Gintama series, fight and eventually defeat Housen, and was impressed, stating that one day he would like to challenge Gintoki himself, essentially marking him as his prey.
After the events of Yoshiwara, Kamui and Abuto planned to rebel from the Harusame, knowing that the Harusame was merely using the Yato. One of the Harusame Admirals knew about this, and set up a trap for Kamui to fall into, making Kamui believe he was to assassinate Takasugi Shinsuke of the Kihetai. This failed, and Kamui was arrested - not before taking out many of the Harusame themselves. Takasugi visited him while he was awaiting his execution, and on the day of his execution, Takasugi helped him escape, as the Thunder Guns came to their leaders rescue. Kamui then took out the Admiral, therefore gaining a higher spot in the Harusame.

Born on a wet, dead planet, Kamui is a cold, seemingly heartless bastard who just wants to become the strongest. And he probably could be one day. He only believes in fighting the strong - he's not a serial killer, by any means. He also won't fight children, saying that they aren't strong, and one day could very well grow into a strong opponent. He has no qualms about whom he fights, but he lives for it, he loves the thrill of the battlefield.
He comes off as good natured, a friendly smile, casually joking around, but once you peel back that cute exterior is a smiling slasher, one who has no problem ripping a hole through your gut. His aim is to become the greatest, even if that means taking down his friends, comrades, as well as his family. He commands a group of fighters like himself, who hold to nothing such as contracts. He would use someone and dispose of them the moment he didn't need them anymore.
Surprisingly, he doesn't seem to waste life. His second in command failed an order from him, and expected death to be the punishment, but instead was allowed to live, mainly because Kamui does not know how to deal with humans very well - he isn't manipulative, but rather jokingly insulting. He is witty, nosy, and intrusive on people's lives - but mostly it's just small talk. He isn't psychotic or anything, he knows exactly what he's doing and how he does it.
Apart from his bloodlust, Kamui seems somewhat friendly. He won't hurt you if you don't bother posing as an interesting challenge to him, and if you don't aim to be strong, he won't take interest in you even if you ARE powerful. He is the type of person who would help an old lady across the street, smiling pleasantly, and then if someone were to try and mug him, he'd probably rip their limbs off one by one, smiling that creepy smile the entire time.
Kamui isn't someone you'd like to be friends with, it's best just to stay away from him, considering it's unknown as to whether the monster inside of him is as bloody as he makes it seem, or if there is more to him.

Kamui is extremely strong - his race itself is built for war. His physical strength is high, as well as his speed and accuracy. He's got a lust for blood, and will only take on 'strong' opponents. His umbrella triples as a gun, a sword, as well as cover from the deadly sun. His body heals rapidly, for example, a gunshot wound heals overnight. He is immune to many poisons, and the ones he isn't immune to, it takes much longer for them to affect him. He is able to eat copious amounts of food to restore his energy.
However, he cannot handle direct sunlight for any length of time, his clan, the Yato, were born on a rainy, cold planet, and their snow white skin cannot handle the sunlight well at all.

He's the type of guy who doesn't mind touching people, he'd pat you on the back, shake your hand, etc etc, but he's probably only going to consider people as one of two things: 1) Not strong enough to bother fighting, and 2) Strong enough to fight. If you manage to be the first one, he's going to be polite and probably a bit creepy to you.
[Fighting] Uh. They can try. He's an alien, with super strength, who basically wants to be the strongest person alive. He's not going to pick fights unless he KNOWS the other is even worth killing. If you attack him, he will fight back, and one punch from him is nasty, so... It's probably better to back off.
As for coming out on top of him in a fight, the best way to do it would be during the day, he's weaker in sunlight, and you CAN overcome him for awhile if you gang up/sneak attack him, but he's got incredibly good senses... but it is possible. If you want an actual fight with him, let me know, I'm totally okay with you beating him up s long as we talk about it and figure out a way to do it :D
