A message about Zero [for Blues]

Jan 07, 2009 10:33

Hey Blues, there's something I want to talk to you about. It's Zero. What was with him acting like that? And I think you know what I mean too, with the times you yelled at him to cut it out.

"Hn. A level of scale, I suppose -- I can't say I like the implications of full-body mimicking, but that's something else altogether. Hey, if you can find the data I say go for it."

The lab was spacious, if maybe not as neat as it could be; and despite having a few stations and widgets that didn't look immediately familiar the basic layout resembled Light's labs.

"Here? This is one of the private brainstorming labs at Light Industries."

"When I have more free time, I'll see what I can do."

"Huh, I don't recognized it. So it's either knew or it's one of those world differences. I didn't really come with anything in mind, just seeing what's changed or different. But you said something about not letting people spot us?"

"New, actually; the entire building we're in right now is a new one. Light Industries is a full-fledged research thinktank now, even if it's being kept smallish, and it needed more space."

Blues grinned.

"Well, that and the kids didn't want new people able to traipse freely through Light's personal labs. Can't say I blame them."

"As far as not letting people spot us go -- well, I can probably explain things to the rest of the horde but the average researcher here would get confused as hell if he or she saw you."

"That's great! But you couldn't move Dad's stuff to one floor and make it off limits? None of the new guys back home have been a problem; I'm guess it's a problem here?"

Getting a mischievous look and grinning at Blues, Rock chuckled. "Okay, I hope you realize that now I'm really tempted to run off and see who I can run into just to see that reaction." He wouldn't, but it was tempting.

"If it was one building, sure; but this is a separate facility. We needed the separation while Xavier was still in sleepmode, just in case someone just couldn't resist getting too curious."

Naturally, Blues grinned right back. Being on the same wavelength always made things entertaining.

"Can't say I blame you, really --"

"What about keeping him at home? Wouldn't that be safer? Or make easier to check on him? I don't know if I stand going all the way to the labs every time I wanted to check on my brother." Ah, Rock and his torrent of questions.

"I don't think anyone's coming," he said, glancing out the door. "Can I look around more?"

"Oh, we managed; that's what teleporting is for, after all. It's less of a concern now because he's awake -- but we like the current setup, gives us a certain amount of privacy."

Following Rock's glance, Blues grinned and shrugged.

"I don't see why not."

Immediately outside said door was a scrupulously-clean hallway, and what looked to be more labs; but the amount of light to the left suggested a much larger open area.

"Oh. Teleporting isn't allowed around the labs back home unless it's an emergency. I guess having that option would make it less of a hassle."

A large open area could mean something of interest or a bigger chance to run into someone or it could always be both. For this reason Rock tried not to get ahead of Blues as he headed down the hall.

"Believe me, fine-tuning the teleport pads so we could zip back and forth was a godsend. Maybe sometime in the next ten years or so we'll be able to add the same advances to personal teleport tech --"

Watching Rock trying not to move ahead was vastly amusing, but Blues kept up a decent enough pace that the younger bot wouldn't be kept waiting forever.

And then the open area revealed itself to be some kind of garage or hangar -- a garage with a good half-dozen prototypes of what looked like ride-chasers in various stages of completion.

Rock? Was in robot heaven. The rule of No Touchy was almost completely forgotten as he shot into the room and towards the nearest prototype.

Chuckling, Blues ambled along in Rock's wake. After all the craziness it was a damn nice thing to see the younger bot genuinely happy about something, yes indeed.

The nearest machine didn't have it's outer shell -- a black and blue sleek thing -- mounted on the frame yet, but the smooth lines were already apparent.

"You like the vroomvrooms, hey ~?"

"Mmhmmm," he replied, trailing a hand over the black and blue shell, caught up studying the bike and taking in all the details.

The bike wasn't as advanced as, say, something that might have been assembled during X's proper place in the timeline. But for all that it wasn't too far behind.

This particular prototype was a small sleek thing, with a single seat though it looked like it could be modified to seat two.

It didn't have to be the most advanced thing on wheels - or anti-gravity in this case - to get Rock's appreciation. And it was the first few models that were the most interesting anyway, watching them change to see what worked and what didn't.

"Someone's doing a real nice job with this-" Then he seemingly remembered he shouldn't touch other people's things and pulled his hand away. "Who's this belong to?"

"Glad you approve! It's a little something we're tinkering with based on a few of Xavier's sketches."

Blues shook his head, seeing Rock jerk away. But he didn't seem to be upset; on the contrary, he was rather pleased and waved Rock back towards the chaser.

"It doesn't belong to anyone unless you count Light Industries itself as a 'someone'. You can poke at it all you want, and anyone who doesn't like it will have to listen to me bitch them out."

"Well, usually there'll be someone or a few someones who are working on a project. If they're putting their time, work, and effort into it, that makes it theirs even if it's for the Labs. And it's rude to ticker with another's project."
