The 411
Long ago I used to be a capping fiend (97-01) and now I find myself able to cap again and an obscene collection from which to cap from.

Capping:
I use software that allows me to automate the process and get them done quicker. Because of this, I tend to make lots of caps for each thing.
My philosophy is that you never know what someone might need or want in a screencap so better to have more choices than fewer. If you're one of those who are frustrated about not being able to find guest stars or bit appearances by lesser known actors then you'll be happy because I do not discriminate.
I remember having worked to identify and post caps of a girl on a Chicago Hope episode in the late 90s who played a pregnant teen in a 2 episode storyline starring Isabella Rossellini. That girl was Julia Stiles. It was another 2 years before people would come to know who she was with 10 Things I Hate About You.
My Tools
1) DVD to Hard Drive. I use either DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Platinum to rip the dvd. The latter is becoming my software of choice for this because it allows me to see what various vobs might be so I can tell if it's an extra worth capping or what episode it is in the case of tv shows.
2) Automatic Capping. I prefer Frameshots (thanks to dj43 for introducing me to the program) but sometimes it doesn't work so I use VLC media player as an alternative.
3) Conversion. I get bmps with Frameshots and pngs with VLC. I convert them to jpgs. Sometimes I also need to crop excessive black bars or fix bad aspect ratio issues. For all this I use Photoshop CS2. If it's a simple jpg conversion, I use the Image Processor script. If more is needed, I use a custom action and run it as a Batch Action on the directory of caps.
4) Filehosting. I have my own hosting and put everything up there as zip files. Sometimes my host has problems so if a link doesn't work, check a few others. If none work then check back later cause the host always fixes the issues as soon as they can. If it's a problem with a specific link, comment and let me know so I can look at it. At this time, I'm maintaining copies of all my zip files on an external hard drive for retrieval if needed.

Why megacaps?
I'm content to post at cap_it and dj_capslock however the OCD in me wants to be able to be a little more detailed in tagging (not used at dj_capslock and is limited at cap_it) so I created this community so I could also post them here and tag to my heart's content.
Since I do have this comm now, I'm consolidating my requests into a single post here at this comm. You don't need to join or watch my community to make a request. I simply require your request to be posted as a comment on the Request post in this community so that I may notify you when I've filled it. You'll be able to find them here and at cap_it & dj_capslock when I do.
General rules are:
* Comments are appreciated, keeps me motivated to keep capping. After all don't you like getting comments on your icons?
* No Hotlinking to my zip files
* No redistributing or reposting of my caps without asking first.
* Credit is not required but is appreciated
* However don't claim caps as your own either.
* I also would love to see what you make with your stuff so linking me to what you do would be great!
