The iP5 Project

Jun 11, 2009 15:58

Characters: Izzy Izumi (trigtrivchamp) and Yuka Kamiyama (moneybunnie)
Time: Morning.
Log Summary: After this post.

Izzy accepts a summer internship with the Kamiyama Corporation and Yuka tags along. A speech about responsibility, trust with company secrets, and a sadly instilled sense of family values.

Early morning, 9:00am. A ride had been prepared to arrive at 9:15am for Izzy, who had been promised a very interesting interview.

Yuka waved at the driver, "Kotaro-san, please drive faster, if you would." "Yes, Miss Kamiyama.", came the reply from the front as she crossed her legs looking out the window. She wondered how this would go.

Izzy was waiting, eager and nervous, pacing back and forth by the door to remind himself to stay calm and cool. He was in the nicest clothes he could afford and his hair was neat.

"This is the address the GPS is giving me, Miss Kamiyama. Is this correct?"
"Yes, thank you."

That was a limousine pulling up.
Izzy deadpanned. Was that a limo?!

The driver stopped and walked around to the left side of the vehicle to open the door. Yuka was inside and she smiled a bit at Izzy, "Good morning."

He smiled, obviously nervous. "H-Hi, Yuka!" Izzy walked over and carefully crawled into the limo, "W-wow! I wasn't expecting a limo! All this for me?"

"Mm-hm, come now. Did you believe I was going to send you over in a sedan?", she replied.

"Ha ha, I suppose that's true. You like to go all out, Yuka.", he smiled.

"I try", she nodded at the driver. "Have you eaten breakfast?" The driver nodded and closed the door, walking back to the front and driving back into the street.

"I uh er...", Izzy thought for a moment, did he eat breakfast? His stomach answered that question: No.

"Kotaro-san?"
"Yes Miss Kamiyama?"
"Can you swing through somewhere?"
"Yes, ma'am."

"Ha ha, Sorry Yuka! I'm just so excited and nervous, I must've forgotten trying to remember everything else. Now I know why my mom was trying to get my attention."

"That's alright, I don't mind. If we're fast you won't be late.", an odd expression went over her face at that. Oh god, you do not want to be late when it came to her family.

"It doesn't have to be anything too fancy, a muffin would suffice, I'm not a heavy ea- hey! Is that a GPS system?" He began to techno-babble about the technology in the front seat.

He finally stopped, "Er, Sorry. Something you were going to say? --Oh Hey, Muffins!"

It made her laugh and he blinked with a muffin sticking out of his mouth, "Mmph?"

She handed him a napkin.
He grinned and took it, swallowing the bite he had in his mouth. "Thanks!"

"You're welcome." Then she finally noticed. "You look nice."

He grinned again, "Thank you! I was hoping you'd like it!"

uka nodded in his direction. She was professional and happy with the morning, but oddly calm, not excited whatsoever. Generally lackluster.

"You alright Yuka? You seem awfully quiet.", he spoke up.

"Hmm?", she blinked, looking back to him from the window. "Yes, of course. Why do you ask?"

"I don't know, you're just quiet."
"I apologize."
"No need to apologize!", he waved his hands frantically.
She smiled. "Are you excited?"
"Very! I almost couldn't sleep last night!", he grinned with excitement.

"I'm glad. I'm sure you'll make a good impression."

The driver was rounding the corner to a large building. It was gated off and they were stopped, she rolled down the window.

"Miss Kamiyama. How are you this morning?"
"Well, I thank you. I have appointment."
"Coming to see your father again?"
"I've brought a guest."
"I see.", he turned, "Clear."

She had to make an appointment with her own father even when she wasn't bring someone with her? The driver nodded to the guards and they drove into the executive parking facility.

Izzy noticed that, but didn't say anything.

"I hope you don't mind walking a little bit.", she turned to him.

The driver parked in the reserved spot and walked around to open the door for the two teenagers in the back. "Thank you." "Both you and your guest have a pleasant day, miss."

She turned and headed for a small stairwell, climbing it and opening up the door at the top.

Inside of the building, they overlooked the first floor from the second-- bustling, huge front desk with the KCorp behind it on the wall. Televisions across the wall, waiting room and businessmen and women walking to and fro hurriedly.

Ha ha trust me, walking anywhere doesn't bother me as much anymore", he nodded.

"That's good.", descending another set of stairs to the bottom of the floor, she walked up to the desk. The secretary stood and bowed. "Miss Kamiyama! And how are you this fine morning?"

"I am well, thank you.", a robotic response it sounded now.

"Please! What may I do for you?"
"I have an appointment with my father, please."
"Ah, I see, I see. Please permit me a moment to see where he has you scheduled."

...His dad pencils her in?

He rubbed the back of his neck, but he still smiled. He felt kind of bad for her. Yuka didn't seem bothered by this at all. To her, this was normal. Boring.

"I presume your guest is Izumi-san?"
"Yes, that is correct."
"Yes, he has you scheduled in five minutes in conference room 4D. Shall I page him?"
"Yes, please."
"....Done.", the secretary smiled. "Please have a pleasant day, Miss Kamiyama. You as well, Izumi-san."

"I thank you.", same response, over and over and over every time. She went left, heading for the elevator.

Izzy smiled and bowed to the secretary. "Thank you! I hope the your day treats you well!" He turned and followed Yuka.

She hit the button and entered, heading for floor 4. The inside of the elevator was overly shiny and reflective. She did smile at him though.

"Wow, I feel like I'm in one of those mirror mazes.", he looked around.

She chuckled, covering her mouth politely before the elevator dinged and opened. A couple of men in there near 40s pushed into the elevator before they realized who they were standing next to.

"Oh dear! Miss Kamiyama! I apologize, please.", they backed up and let her and Izzy out first. "I didn't realize."

"It's alright. Don't worry yourself."
"Have a good day.", they bowed.
"...I thank you.", again.

A large carpeted floor with large doors all around it. One of them labeled "4D" on it. She stopped short. ".... Are you ready?"

Izzy nodded, "Ready as I'll ever be!" Come on Izzy, you've been attacked by giant bugs, tossed, grabbed, punched, starved, digitized, deleted, and saved two different worlds about 10 times. And you're scared to meet a human being. Stop being a baby.

She smiled and took a deep breath, wiping herself down before opening the door. A man, sitting at the head chair far down on the other end of the room.

He was dressed in a very expensive business suit with several portfolios of paperwork on the table in front of him.

Yuka bowed. "Good morning, father." She bowed to her own father? "I'm here with Izumi-san for your interview?"

Izzy smiled and bowed as well.

"Please, both of you come in. Seat yourselves.", he father responded, gesturing to a nearby chair.

Nodding, he did the gentlemanly thing of pulling out a seat for Yuka to sit in with a smile.

Yuka sat, thanking Izzy for pulling her chair.

"Ah, Izumi-san...", he put his hands together on the table and looked him up and down. "You come with a very... interesting recommendation."

Izzy nodded again politely.

"Why don't you tell me about yourself.", he spoke quietly, an air of power behind it. Yuka sat quietly and said nothing as she watched the two interact for the first time.

"Well sir, I've been playing with computers and electronics ever since I could remember. I spent most of my time when I'm not studying with some sort of piece of technology. Hah, I rarely go anywhere without some sort of technologically advanced piece of equipment. I feel I've come to know technology and the connections between the devices... quite well.", he responded.

"Your background on software and hardware? Family life? Grades in school are well?", Dear god, that was a lot of personal information was asking about.

"My background? Well, I always make sure I have the most up-to-date programs that I can afford, and I learn them quickly and easily. And for whatever I can't afford, I improvise and create my own programming that suits my needs. I get along really well with my... parents. They're both really supportive of me, sir", he paused with smile. "My grades are also all A's sir, and I'm the head of the computer and math clubs, have been all throughout highschool."

"I see. Forgive the questions. You see, Kamiyama Corporation has been creating technological advances for almost 20 years, and we must continue such a trend. We are the leader over many other companies in our extensive industry who were bought out- namely by us."

"It is important that all devices given for testing are beta'd by those that are responsible individuals, given full background checks including, but not limited to; connections to other companies to drug testing."

Yuka sighed. It was 'the schpeel'.

"I completely understand sir! I wouldn't want to be treated any differently than anyone else that comes in here in hopes to be of service to you! And I can assure you, Sir, I'm a very responsible person!", he said, nodding once again.

"Deadlines must be met, all error reports and bug issues with any software must be noted to the proper departments as well. You understand this?"

He eyed over at Yuka, "My daughter speaks highly of your abilities."

Not Yuka, Not Yu, just 'my daughter'. She smiled kindly to her father.

"I trust her judgment. I raised her to make proper decisions. If she feels that you would be fitting or appropriate for a position, I will consider such. However, parental consent will be an issue unless you are not a minor. A signature of proper consent is a legal requirement."

"I understand completely, sir!" Izzy rubbed at the back of his head, humbly, "I must admit sir, it'd be so tempting for me to try and solve the issues myself - but I'll report everything to the proper departments and I will meet all deadlines given to me! And parental consent shouldn't be an issue, either."

"Very well.", he noded in Izzy's direction, raising an eye at the comment. "You believe you're well enough to repair it yourself, do you?"

Yuka swallowed hard, her head high and almost regal in her seat.

Momentarily, he seemed to be in this own world as he fell into deep thought. "Well, sir, after I become familiar with whatever program I'm working on at the time, and something unusual or strange happens... after taking into consideration how the software or hardware should be working, and keeping past similar problems in mind in earlier programs, I could probably calculate the part in the programming that is causing the issue. And with enough data I could determine exactly how to fix it to make it work."

He took a small breath and continued, "Sometimes, it just takes an extra 0 or 1, and the program works better than it intended, when you get right down to it. It's just a matter understanding how programs change depending on what data you feed it. And understanding how a piece of data, can affect different programs in different ways." Izzy stopped and blushed slightly at his rambling, "Ah ha, sorry sir, I tend to babble when it comes to stuff like this."

Mr. Kamiyama tilted his head in Izzy's direction. "... Hmn."

Yuka looked tense, but was amazingly well at looking calm and professional. It was barely noticeable to the naked eye.

"That's rather impressive for a young man your age, Izumi-san."
Izzy blinked, "Thank you sir!

"Perhaps you'll replace one of the incompetent others that I have working on the iP5 project."

The iPineapple five?

"T-That would be an honor, sir!", Izzy's eyes went wide at the thought.

Yuka chuckled.

"Quiet", the voice of Mr. Kamiyama spoke up.
She immediately was quiet and returned to her serious and calm demeanor.
"Thank you."

She nodded. Her father was apparently a very strict man. He might as well snapped his fingers at her. "She tells me you have an interest in the iP line. Is that correct?"

"Yes, sir! I buy whatever I can from it!", he spoke excitedly.

He grinned, pleased. "I'm pleased to hear that you prefer our products. We have the LW-iP5 and the original iP5 scheduled for release this holiday season. It will... replace the old models ten-fold."

He opened a box on the table.

Oh god, an iP5. He was seeing it months before its final release. It was turned on and slid around to his side of the table. Izzy could inspect and touch as he wished.

Izzy was mentally squealing like a girl as he looked the iP5 over. "Wow, sir! This looks r-really impressive! I'm almost at a lost for words!" The technological babble began all over again as he rambled over the new laptop in front of him.

Yuka smiled, and honestly couldn't help but laugh aloud.

"Yuka."
"My apologies.", she was silent and stoic again.

"I take it's to your liking? 450HD, wifi-ware server, internal memory of 6.08, upgradable, HD, flippable touchscreen...", Oh god, it had a touch screen.

"LED display with digital battery percentage counter, 8 USB ports, customizable casing in 5 colors. Newly developed intel-quadcore chipsets coupled with iP5-64x software bundle package.", there was obviously much more, but Mr. Kamiyama didn't speak of it.

Izzy seemed completely oblivious to Yuka now. He didn't even notice that she was there anymore as he was too busy being entranced by the iP5. "T-Touchscreen? Prodigious! See, sir? This is why I buy your products, and why your company is in the lead!"

He chuckled, "I shall tell you this, Izumi-san.", he slid an entire folder across the table. It was thick with agreements and confidentiality forms. 'You vow not to speak of these devices under law to other companies, etc.'

"....Why don't you take these and look over them with your parents. Return them to the desk downstairs in the envelope by Friday and you may have a summer position."

Yuka opened her mouth to speak, but was cut off.
"Not now."
"Yes, sir.", she was quiet and smiled at her father regardless.

"And if things go well, well... we'll see from there. As of right now, I offer you this position. Notably, you are the youngest that I have ever offered it to", he spoke with concern.

He was so happy! Izzy took the folder and nodded, "Yes sir! Thank you sir! I'll have them in, sir! I won't let you down sir, this is such an honor!"

Yuka stood, as did her father. He leaned across the table to shake Izzy's hand, "... Are there questions?"

He shook Yuka's father's hand in return, "I can't think of any at the moment, sir!"

"Very well then. You'll find my business card and information inside of the packet. If there is nothing else you require, I'll have my daughter see you out. I thank you for your time."

Yuka walked over to her friend, looking pleased for him.

He momentarily carried an expression that said 'I had no idea Yuka was here, oops.' He stood and smiled at Yuka, holding onto the packet. "Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to see me, sir! It has been a great pleasure and I look forward to working for you, and hope to speak with you again sometime!" Izzy bowed then turned to Yuka with a smile.

Yuka nodded in return, turning to bow to her father.

"Please be home at a reasonable time", he was speaking to her.
"Yes, father."

"You have three scheduled appointments tomorrow that I have set for you. See that you arrive on time and presentable."
"Yes, father."

"We also have a visitor stopping by on Saturday to see Kobayashi Academy. I have asked that you tour him the facility. Understood?"
"Yes, father.", over and over.

"Thank you. You may go."
"Yes, father."
"Have a pleasant day, Yuka."
"I thank you.", again, "You as well."

She headed for the door and he smiled, following Yuka out the door.

She sighed, following it up with a smile. "Congratulations."

Izzy gave huge sigh of relief, "Oh wow, did that just happen?"
She chuckled, not silenced this time. "Yes."
"Oh man... I'm so excited!"

"Shall I take you back? Or is there another place you would like to go?"
"Ah uh, er, home is fin, Yuka!"

"As you like.", she said with a stuck smile. "Come along." And to the parkinglot they went.
