Today, we had a picnic. The 3rd and 2nd graders are gone, so the school lunch ladies made 200ish bento lunches for the kids. Bento lunches are something of an art in Japan. Basically, anything meant to be taken with you and eaten later could be considered a bento or boxed lunch. Apparently, mothers of elementary students (who bring their lunches) base their reputations on the bento that they send with their student. No peanut butter and jelly here, people.
So today, we had rice, fried chicken, fish, a few meatballs, vegetables (normal and japanese), and a few potatoes. As well as milk and coffee jelly for desert. Then we took our lunches and went outside to sit on the dirt. Sumiko, from Peru, and her friends, asked me to eat with them and I agreed. I'd rather eat with kids who actually WANT to talk to me, call me crazy. Poor Sumiko, she really wants to speak spanish with me (a rare thing, as most "foreign" students don't want to do anything different, especially speak a different language). My Spanish is severly lacking though, she needs to meet Amy or John. Perhaps she will. Anyway, lunch was a lot of fun. Now they are playing dodge ball in the gym, but I don't really feel like going. I taught all the classe this morning and am feeling the need to relax.
I went to the outlet mall yesterday, and Trial, and managed to put together an outfit for the party this weekend. I'll post pictures next week. It's an Arabian themed party. Should be a good time. Ok, only 2 more hours until the weekend!!
