Here we go. I own nothing! And this is dedicated to my dearest friend Marie, because without her encouragement, I never would have finished.
#01 - Walking
She never seemed to walk, he noticed one day; she danced.
#02 - Waltz
His plan was to sit and glare at everybody who looked in his direction at his cousin’s wedding reception, but one look at her pleading face convinced him; “Okay, fine, one dance.”
#03 - Wishes
There was no time for wishing and wanting, they were shinobi of the Leaf and everything that they did was for the Leaf, not for themselves.
#04 - Wonder
“I know this sounds weird, but I have always wanted to know what conditioner you use because your hair is always SO pretty!”
#05 - Worry
Contrary to popular belief, he worries about her more that she worries about him because she has always been happy, but he has never been happy and whole without her.
#06 - Whimsy
Gone were the days of childish whimsy, where other people died on mission, but not them; they were in the real world now, and he was dead.
#07 - Waste/Wasteland
They looked at each other in affirmation, her chocolate colored eyes gleaming at the chance to use her new wakizashi, his mouth set into a confident smirk, and they prepared to waste the approaching enemy.
#08 - Whiskey and rum
Somehow, it had become a habit; after especially hard missions, the two of them would forsake their usual nightly training sessions and get completely plastered at the local bar.
#09 - War
Wave after wave of enemy ninja came upon them, but the two of them stood strong, fighting until the end and winning the war for their village before dying in each other’s arms.
#10 - Weddings
At their wedding, they did not exchange rings, but instead exchanged chakra; true it was unconventional, but it felt nice to have the one you loved always with you.
#11 - Birthday
“Happy Birthday, Tenten” he said in a quiet, smooth voice, his hands resting at her waist, his lips hovering millimeters above hers.
#12 - Blessing
The first time Hiashi ever met Tenten, he knew that she would mean more to Neji than anybody else, so when he came to ask for permission to marry her, he gave his blessing immediately.
#13 - Bias
When she was a genin and she exalted his skills, she thought that she was just biased, but as she got older and more experienced, she realized that he truly was a master at what he did.
#14 - Burning
His lungs and muscles were screaming for more oxygen, but he ignored the burning sensation and thought about her smiling face instead.
#15 - Breathing
When she was within the green and gold whirl of his Kaiten, she always had to remember to breathe because the flashing colors were just like him: breathtaking.
#16 - Breaking
He has never tried to use the Gentle Fist on her weapons after that first time because, well, let’s just say Tenten gets vicious with her weapons break.
#17 - Belief
In the middle of the battlefield, when everything seemed lost and the end wasn’t in sight, she thought of him, and his confidence in her abilities; it was this belief that got her through the bloodiest battles.
#18 - Balloon
He saw a beautiful, simple engagement ring in a shop window once and he bought, tied it to a white helium filled balloon and released it because she was dead and would have loved the symbolism.
#19 - Balcony
“But soft! What light through yonder window breaks,” she read out loud; he set his finger on her lips and finished, “It is the east, and you are the sun.” (Adapted from Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare Act 2, Scene 2 - the original reads, “It is the east, and Juliet is the sun).
#20 - Bane
Wind was the bane of her existence, but her tears were the bane of his.
#21 - Quiet
She had never really liked the quiet, but somehow, staring at the stars while he meditated, she found that she really didn’t mind.
#22 - Quirks
Their idea of a romantic date was a four-hour training session followed by meditation under the stars; their friends asked them why they were so weird and what the hell happened to dinner and a movie?
#23 - Question
People always asked how they got together, and they always just looked at each other, smiled, and said, “Fate.”
#24 - Quarrel
Word of their tiff had obviously spread quickly, and he knew it was time to make amends when Hiashi-sama asked him what the problem was.
#25 - Quitting
“Oh God, I quit, Neji!” came her laughing voice as he tickled her and it was this sound that he would remember when he wanted to just die where he was, instead of trying to get home.
#26 - Jump
He never thought that she was more beautiful than when she was leaping into the air while bellowing out the name of her signature technique.
#27 - Jester
“I hate Halloween,” he said, and she merely giggled as she finished applying the clown makeup.
#28 - Jousting
“That’s a new one,” he said, warily watching as she fiddled around with the old fashioned lance.
#29 - Jewel
“I don’t want to die, Neji” came her shaky voice and it took very ounce of self-control to not scream when a crystalline drop of liquid fell from her eye.
#30 - Just
As he fought, he thought of the girl back at camp, the girl who should have been fighting next to him, but wasn’t because of what his current opponent had done to her; when he killed him with his katana, the one she forged for him, he felt a sense of poetic justice.
#31 - Smirk
Many times, he wanted to smile at her, to show her that she meant the world to him, but it had been too long since he had last smiled, so he settled for a smirk.
#32 - Sorrow
She knew that sorrow and pain had been a constant fixture in his childhood and promised herself that no matter what happened, she would not inflict any more pain on him than she had to.
#33 - Stupidity
As she sat by his bedside after the failed mission to retrieve Sasuke, she cursed him and his stubborn stupidity; he could have at least left her a note!
#34 - Serenade
Their song was merely the sound of chakra explosions, shiny, sharp metal hissing through the air and the guttural sounds of a successful assassination.
#35 - Sarcasm
“Oh, yes, I totally love you because you beat me to a pulp every time we spar,” she said sarcastically; his reply came without a hint of it: “I love you, too.”
#36 - Sordid
News of her mission to assassinate the daimyo got out soon enough; they called it a sordid affair, but he knew that she only did what she had to do.
#37 - Soliloquy
Every time he got started on one of his speeches about destiny or the tyranny of the Main House, it never failed to amuse her that he actually thought she was listening.
#38 - Sojourn
She hadn’t seen him in weeks, so when she stumbled to their training spot, bruised and battered, and saw his familiar form, she immediately knew it was a worthwhile journey.
#39 - Share
“Share some of those blankets Neji!!!”
#40 - Solitary
Until she came into his life, it was all about fate, destiny and the evil Main Branch, but most of all it was lonely.
#41 - Nowhere
When she was stuck in the middle of nowhere, cold, broken, and beaten, she thought of the first time she had ever seen him smile, and nowhere seemed just a little but more bearable.
#42 - Neutral
His neutral opinion of her changed drastically after their first sparring session; she kicked his ass, and while he was limping home with nicks and cuts all over his body, he smiled and thought that it would be an interesting few years.
#43 - Nuance
She thought it was interesting that he never went to bed without saying a short prayer, and he though it was interesting that made every single weapon that she used.
#44 - Near [Linked to 39]
“Maybe you should just move closer.”
#45 - Natural
Never had he seen her wear makeup or any other beauty products, nor did he ever really want to; it was her natural beauty that captivated him more than she knew.
#46 - Horizon
The looked out over the setting sun from their vantage point on the mountain after their first assassination as members of the ANBU and she said, “This is just the beginning, isn’t it?”
#47 - Valiant
They went down together, chakra flashing and weapons glinting, not falling until the very last enemy had fallen too.
#48 - Virtuous
His respect and quiet admiration of her intensified when he realized that the one thing that she would never do to him was lie.
#49 - Victory
The second she pulled out her painfully sharp katana, he knew she had won; there was just no competition between chakra and pointy things.
#50 - Defeat
Though Neji was used to winning, he knew when to admit defeats, so when Tenten starts tickling him, that is exactly what he does.
