After a horrible day and night, I finally made it back to the apartment and sat down to install my free Norton AntiVirus. I don't know how much of the computer it got through, but it found about a bazillion infected files. One of them must be particularily nasty because the computer shut down by itself and Norton freaked out saying it was being denied access to the file. Well, of course you're going to be denied access if all you want to do is delete the bad guy. You're going to have to fight it. Silly, weak Norton.
I called Kate on her Geek Squad Chino Hills number and she told me that Norton was not a very good antivirus program, and that I should get another one. She told me the name and I wrote it down. Then she proceeded to tell me that there are actually people in front of computers somewhere who are feeding these icky bad guys through the cyber freeways and into my computer. Like, actual people, not like malfunctioning, angry machines. I don't know what I was thinking. Kate told me to unplug the connection from the internet to my computer. It's like some weird horror movie.
Thank you for the help. R., I will call/email later with a couple more questions, and Keith, reinstalling my operating system is totally over my head. If this new antivirus program does not do the trick, and if my Geek Squad sister cannot talk me down from this ledge, well, I'm not sure what will happen.
