Arnold is a lier!!!!!!!!!
I'm making this entry public. I'm pretty disgusted as to why Republicans can repeatedly justify and defend public officials who lie to the public? Arnold is the latest lier. He said he would help education. He said he would help the citizens of California. He is doing the exact opposite. Even worse, he's trying to come off as if HE is the good guy. HE wants you, the general public, to believe that he IS on the side of Californians. I'm here to warn you that he is on the side of RICH Californians. Californians, who i feel, will help fund this lier's presidential election campaign someday. Please do not sign petitions in support of the outrageously expensive election he's trying to have. And if the election does come, PLEASE DON'T VOTE FOR ARNOLD'S BILLS or MEASURES!
Arnold said he would back teachers, nurses, firefighters, and police officers. When there was a huge street flood in front of my house, city workers were literally working all night to keep the water from getting to our homes. These public workers were also lied to. See, Arnold wants to take all of these public servants' pension plans.
We can't afford to NOT save these pensions. We want people to have these jobs that are a necessity for life. They are not frivolous jobs that provide mindless entertainment, such as the movie industry. These are not jobs that waste millions of dollars on crap movies that do nothing to promote a healthier society.
Quite the contrary, the people who serve in these jobs are getting paid tiny amounts for the thankless, stressful, tireless job that these people do on a daily basis. oh an actor might go for a couple of months and "experience" the life of one of these real heroes. However, trade one of their days for a day in the life of one of these, and let's see how much money they are worth!
I can only appreciate and not take for granted the sacrifices that nurses, firefighters, and police officers make. I know that my sister is a nurse, and I know that nurses have had a hard time for quite a while. They take care of us when we are sick or hurt. Our lives depend on them. Now he wants to take away their retirement? They deserve to be set up for life for a lifetime of helping people and our society.
I know that more than one firefighter has saved my dad's life. I've watched as fearless men and women came to the aid of my neighbor as her home burned, really melted, to the ground. I've see firefighters in action many times. I saw how they were. Inflappable. True heroes. Do they get 20 million dollars for each life they save? No, our society reserves that kind of money for the movie stars.
I cannot speak first hand about what it is like to risk your life on a daily basis for others. And how does our current governor want to repay these people? By screwing with their pensions. Hurting them in their elderly years. We treat the elderly like crap in this country. Elders should be respected and taken care of.
I can speak as a teacher. Not only are republicans voting to take away my retirement monies, but arnold has some other schemes up his sleeve. He wants to have teachers' salaries be based on student performance on the state tests. Let me please tell you this from the bottom of my heart, THIS IS COMPLETE AND UTTER GARBAGE! I have a Masters degree in Education. I have been teaching now for 5 years at both private and public schools. Let me see if i can get non-teachers to understand this. Because unless you teach for a few years, you have no CLUE what you are talking about if you agree with Arnold on this one.
Basing a teacher's salary on state test performance is like paying you a commission, but the commission isn't based on YOUR performance, but that of someone else. Not only is your commission based on their performance, but you only have control over giving them instructions and information for a short period of time. You have to get to know them for almost a third of the time before you can give them the information.
You can't help them at all during the final review. You can't even CLARIFY for them if the review is in a different language than you speak. Futhermore, you can't help them study at home, OR help prepare them outside of your short period of time. If they fail the review, you don't get paid. that's final. you have no way of fighting this. You are completely dependent on someone else.
NOW IMAGINE THIS...
Imagine that the person taking the review, the person who your salary and job depend on, is 7 years old? is 10 years old? That's bad enough, but now imagine that this little child doesn't have a dad. mom is on meth. doesn't eat dinner regularly. lives in filth. Does this sound fair to you? Does this sound like thanks to teachers who dedicate numerous hours and sacrifice priceless time, in order to try and make a difference in society and in lives?
Teachers already get a salary barely worth it. Yes, we chose this job, but we didn't choose these conditions. Most teachers don't complain about pay, we complain about lack of help and support. At my school, the above scenario is not unusual. Close to 80% of our students are considered low-socio economic. This is poverty level. It is a proven fact that students in this demographic, score lower on standardized tests. How is it fair for teachers with these students to get dinged in their pay, while teachers of Gate or rich students get paid more? What will happen? There will be NO TEACHERS WHO WILL WANT TO TEACH THESE KIDS!
Besides, frankly, I am completely sick of being blamed for my unsuccessful students. let me put it this way, if I'm such a shitty teacher, then how come 20 out of 30 of my students DO GET WHAT I'M TEACHING THEM?????!!!! I'm to be dinged for the 10 who don't? Those 10 had the same exact instruction as my other students, IF NOT MORE! Those 10 are the ones who usually get the pull out, one on one instruction.
Things are not just black and white. The truth is that there are many factors in what determines a child's achievement. I'm sick of being blamed for lack of parental support and administration's false dictation. When I'm at work, I do not sit down except to eat lunch for 40 minutes. I can probably tell you more about a child in my class, than most of their parents. I am, like most teachers I know, a dedicated teacher who sacrifices much in order to prepare the leaders of tomorrow. I refuse to be disrespected any longer by people who do not understand what they are talking about.
Go back to Hollywood and your dream land, Arnold. Better yet, to quote a sign I saw at Action Day, May 25th in Sacramento, "Arnold for President of Austria!" Just go back there and take your closet republican wife with you!
