Um, I don't want to be a bother, but there's a bit of a contradiction here. In the email I was sent, it says, "As a nominated author, you are able to nominate and vote for nominated pieces in the 2011 MEFAs." (Emphasis mine.) Here, you say, "temporary accounts can't nominate."

So I'm confused. Can I or can't I nominate other stories?

Good catch, indy1776.

There's actually a technical glitch with the website, and I'm working with our other volunteers to figure out how to best handle it. So I can't answer that question - yet. I'll have a definite answer for you in a day or two, and will comment back once I do. For now, though, I wanted you to know that I saw your question and am working on it.

Okay. :) And thanks for letting me know you're working on it!

As I just explained here the email message you received was due to a site error. Because it was our fault, we're letting everyone - permanent and temporary accounts - nominate stories this year.

However, this is a one-shot deal. Next year (in 2012) and in the future, temporary accounts won't be able to nominate stories. For this year, though, we've decided to let both temporary and permanent accounts nominate. Have at it!

When I first logged on at the new site this year, presumably on a temporary account (or had I been set to "permanent" already at that point, although I only asked to be afterwards?), a message on the top right-hand corner told me I had 20 nominations. I assumed the site must know and went ahead--I hope those nominations aren't invalid?

As I just explained to indy1776 above, there's a small glitch on the website that was causing it to let temporary members nominate stories. They shouldn't have been able to, according to the awards rules. Of course many of them did, through no fault of their own. They were actually doing exactly what the website told them to!

I'm still discussing with the other volunteers how exactly to handle this and how to have it all sorted in a day or two. The one thing we won't be doing is throwing out nominations already made. Those authors have been for the most part told they were nominated - it's not fair to anyone involved to take those nominations back now.

I just made an official announcement about this issue. The upshot is, we're letting both temporary and permanent accounts nominate for this year. Usually only permanent accounts get to nominate (and that's the way it will be in 2012 and in the future). But this year we made a mistake and when it's a mistake made by a volunteer we try not to penalize other people. :-D So out of fairness we are letting everyone nominate this year, and nominations already made (like yours) will obviously still be allowed to compete.
