Banners for 2010 Award Winners

Dec 15, 2010 12:23

Greetings, all!

Voting for the 2010 MEFAs ends in a few hours, and the results will be announced in a few days. Winning authors should receive an email message informing them of the prize they won on Dec. 16-17, with full results posted here on Dec. 18.

We invite all authors to use a banner to brag about their participation in the MEFAs. It's an honor even to be nominated. If you were nominated but didn't win an award, you are still welcome to use the nominee banners and buttons here.

Winning authors, you have two options:

This year all graphics will be posted to a Picasa album. There are already some banners there, and even more will be added over the next few days. The album is divided into sections based on place won, with a 5th section for blanks/bases. If you see an already labeled banner that you would like customized for your specific award, please ask. It may be possible.

Option #1: Customizeable Banners

Our banner artists have created several banners which can be used for any category, sub-category, and ranking. They will need to be customized with additional text, so they describe the specific place you won. You can do this yourself, if you know how. If you'd like help, our banner artists are glad to make the changes for you.

You can find the customizable banners in the fifth folder ("Winner Graphics: Customizeable"). You can also ask to have banners from the other folders, nominee banners, or even banners from previous years customized for you. This is not always possible, so please try to use banners from the "Winner Graphics: Customizeable" folder where possible. But if your heart is set on something else, request it below and we'll see what we can do.

To request to have a banner customized, just comment to this post with the following information:

Author name:
Story name:
Place Won:
Category/Subcategory name:
Banner Artist (if available):
The link (URL) in picasa of the requested banner:

IMPORTANT! You must comment by December 31 if you want our help customizing your banner. After that we may not be able to help you.

Option #2: Pre-Made Banners

We also have several banners that are already customized for each category and place. These can be used immediately without the need for customization.

To view these:

1. Go to the Picasa Web Album.
2. Go to the appropriate folder for the place you won.
3. Find a banner for the subcategory you competed in.
4. Right-click on the banner and click "Copy Image URL."

You can then insert this banner wherever you are allowed to display images. Just insert
, where LINK is the URL you copied. Alternately, post your image using WYSIWYG by clicking the button and telling the form to display the image at the URL you copied.

Some of these banners can also be customized for different categories. Feel free to ask by commenting on this post.

IMPORTANT: Different archives and websites have different rules for whether images are allowed. When in doubt ask your site's owners. Please follow whatever rules they have for the sites where you will be displaying a banner.

What Happens When You Request a Customized Banner

  • As soon as you post a comment it is displayed to everyone visiting this page. The various banner makers will check in periodically to see if anyone has requests one of their banners.
  • The banner-maker will have a day to "claim" the request to have their banner customized, by replying to your comment.
  • If they do not do this, another banner artist may claim the banner within the next two days.
  • If no one has yet volunteered to customize the banner for you, I will email the various banner artists, to see if someone can customize your banners for you.
  • After someone has claimed your request, they typically should make the banners and post back within 3-4 days of claiming your request. They will upload your customized banners to picasa, and will also post them as part of a reply to your comment.
  • Once your banners have been posted, copy the URLs by right-clicking on each image and pasting it into a document, email, etc. (Or go ahead and use the URL to display the image wherever you want to do this.) And remember to comment on your thread saying you've done this. That way we can delete those comments so new requests stand out more.

Obviously this can all take a little time. But if you think your request may have fallen through the cracks, do check up on it! If it has been a week since you made your request and no one has claimed it, or if a week has passed since someone claimed your request and you're yet to see your banners, you should email me. I'll look into it for you.

You don't have to be an LJ member to request banners. We allow comments where you aren't logged in. You *do* need to include your name when requesting banners, but that should be done in the text of your comment.

Thanks to the many banner artists: Elena Tiriel, Elleth, Ellynn Ithilwen, Nath, Red Lasbelin, and Thevina Finduilas
....... and to Neume Indil, who worked so hard organizing them. I appreciate all the help!

Looking forward to getting you the banners you want so you can share your good news with your friends and readers, as soon as we can!
