Hi. Not much going on here. I've been working much too hard and often. Tomorrow will be my well-deserved day off where I will do nothing but sit in my pyjamas all day, sew a little and get some laundry done. There are probably only three people on the planet who will be able to get me out of the house tomorrow. (Kerry, you're one of them! ;))
I went and saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow recently at the Graumann's Chinese Theatre. God, I love the sound at that theatre. One of the two best theatres for sound, the Arclight being number two. I loved this movie! I recommend it to anyone who can accept heroes beating all the odds in the most impossible of circumstances. You must have a fine-tuned and well-used suspension of disbelief for this one. The art direction was great. It was period piece with a modern edge, the costumes reflected this aspect particularly. There were quite a few anime influences, exhibited in the types of robots and other mechanical bodies. The whole thing had a well-developed adventure feel, almost along the lines of an Indiana Jones movie. Also, there wasn't a dull moment through the whole film. I was very happy with that! I survived Gwyneth Paltrow; she was a good pick for the character of Polly Perkins, perky newspaper reporter. Nothing needs to be said about Jude Law. The man is a god, I swear. I even enjoyed Angelina Jolie in this. Her character was very cool. I give Sky Captain... 4 out of 5 party hats!
I went to Disneyland this past Thursday. Ryan was able to get one-day park hoppers for the bargain price of $55 apiece, so we went. We went to California Adventure first. I love that park, it's a very relaxed place to be. The lines for rides are never obscenely long and it has the same wonderful attention to detail that Disney never seems to overlook. (Have you ever seen the menus and menu maps that come with their DVDs? Yeah...that's what I'm talking about.) I finally went on the Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror. I've been waiting for this ride forever...and I loved it! I can't say it was everything I was expecting it be because I really had no expectations at all. So that works out well, methinks. Disneyland was fun, as always. My heart sank when I saw Sleeping Beauty's castle all wrapped up in blue sheets from refurbishment for Disneyland's 50th Anniversary. I looked at the plans for what they want it to look like when they're done with it. I guess they're going to put gold leaf on the tops of the turrets and top them off with big gold crowns that have jewels in them. It could be borderline gaudy if it isn't done correctly. I'm praying Disney doesn't fuck this one up, or I'll be pissed! Most everything was closed too. Naturally, Space Mountain is still closed for remodeling, and also Big Thunder Mountain due to several technical difficulties (read: deaths and injuries). The Matterhorn was closed for remodeling too. Thankfully, when I got to Disneyland next year, for it's 50th birthday, everything will be so new and shiny I won't know what to do with myself I'll be so happy to be there. There's something to look forward to!
I watched an early Steven Spielberg flick called The Empire of the Sun today. I've never seen it before and I loved it. Christian Bale was hot when he was 12 years old. (Is that just dirty??) Yummy! I was very pleased with this film. I love seeing movies for the first time. :) Later on I watched Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and it brought me to a bittersweet place, but Indy always makes me smile. I was getting pretty ticked off with my TV though. The sound was awful, I couldn't hear the dialogue at all. I ended up pausing the movie and hooking the audio up through my lovely Marantz receiver and I was happy again. I love my Marantz. :D
Brought Ryan to get Greek food with Kerry, Chris, Megan and Jack. We all smoked a hookah with melon mint flavored tobacco and it was good. I love hookahs! It was nice to see Kerry. I love Kerry. She makes all my days bright!! :) It's just as well we didn't go to the Yard tonight because I'm so dead tired. This week about killed me.
Revelation #1: I think I want to be a film major. I was lying awake the other night, giving in to my now residing insomnia, and realized that's what I need to do. Not because I want to make films...though, who knows? Maybe being a film major will inspire creativity I never knew I had... It's just that I love films, I always have, so why not? I think it fits me. Yes. I wonder why I had never thought of this before...it seems so obvious now. Weird...
Revelation #2: I either want to put together a costume to be Marion Ravenwood from Raiders or be the Evil Queen from Snow White. I haven't decided yet. INPUT!
*hug*
