So.
I'm here!
Wow. So many feelings. I mean. Duh.
I should be doing something productive, like digging up old syllabi so I can place out of some intro classes, figuring out what classes to register for tomorrow, etc. But, you know. Procrastination.
Anyway. Been really busy the last few days with orientation stuff. It's honestly way too overwhelming. I can't even handle how much stuff I'm supposed to be keeping tabs on. This whole thing is really stressful. But my advisor seems really nice and talking to him today was helpful. John Conlee....he's got this great thick Southern drawl and he's like "Culture shock yet? Of my 10 students, 8 are from Virginia....so how you like the South?" Honestly though, it's not really the south. Pretty close, but it's no Georgia. Colonial Williamsburg isn't really anything. It's totally not the real world. They had this adorable little welcome for us in the colony two days ago. I adored it. "Patrick Henry" came out and wished us luck at William & Mary (after wishing George Washington luck on his campaign against the British). Then we strolled around the gardens in the back. The palace was full of guns and swords.
Strolling around here is one of my favorite things. This campus is so goddamn beautiful. I love the campus so much. I need to go for a run one of these days. It would help it the weather would cool off. 95 and 90% humidity do not a good run make. Although it certainly didn't slow down my roommate! Sally got up at 6:30 the other morning to do a 14-mile run. She's training for a marathon in Richmond. Nuts!!!
Registering for my last 2 classes tomorrow...am going to try to beg my way into Conlee's Brit Lit I, and will probably place out of Brit Lit II with that Enlightenment Lit class I took freshman year. Really excited to see how the classes go. Looking forward to meeting professors, etc.
People around here are really nice and friendly so far. The "where did you transfer from?...wtf why???" conversation is getting pretty old though. But I mean. I can't blame everyone for being curious. Whatever. There's a transfer from Cornell in my transfer group. She's really cool. We had a lot to talk about, as you can imagine.
Justin, Claire, Mary and I got dinner at the Cheese Shop today in the colony. It was chill. I like those kids. The last two nights I ended up chilling in TDX courtesy of Ms. Smith. Thumbs up, Cait. Your friends are awesome. I had a great time. Last night we had a dance party in Robert's room and it was honestly the most fun I've had in ages. Then Lucia and Cait and I walked 29384 miles back to Ludwell and ate donuts. I'm really going to stop crashing on Cait's couch, I swear. Any day now. Hah then it'll be crashing at Justin's. He's got a pretty sweet pad. I'm so jealous of all you people with your own apartments, houses, etc. Now that I'm back in a double in a freshman dorm, I can appreciate why people want to move off campus.
Wow this entry was so disjointed. Sorry, having trouble getting my thoughts in any coherent order. I'll try to do better next time. C U at the UC is tonight, as well as the Ghost Tour of Colonial Williamsburg. haha the colony is so adorable. <3.
Time to go do things.
