things i have learned in virginia:
1) not every place understands vegetarianism.
2) football games can legitimately achieve spiritual status among some fans.
3) not everyone understands yiddish words...even ones like "schmuck" (many of which i assumed were english words until...oh...freshman year).
4) you can buy guns in wal-mart. yes. wal-mart.
5) the southern accent starts in richmond.
6) and sounds really funny layered with other accents (french, etc.)
7) it actually seems rude to me now that people don't say "please" and "thank you" in the northeast, or don't say "excuse me" when they bump into each other. weird!
8) you can actually need a sweatshirt when it's as warm as 72....if it's been 90 for a week, then of course you do!
9) religion is not an non-issue in most parts of the country.
10) for example:
11) jews? oh, are they the ones that hate jesus? ...sigh.
12) and apparently a lot of the country has not yet accepted the existence of gay people. welcome to the 21st century! stop hating love! hard to believe if you're a northerner but down here people are regularly still getting kicked out, disowned, losing college money when they come out. this is definitely the thing i hate the most about the south.
