Jason is Gabe O'Mackey's older brother, though they're so close in age they were often mistaken for twins while growing up. After Gabe spoke very highly of life in Riverblossom Hills, Jason decided to join him. What he didn't expect to find was Rose.
Rose Greenman is a plantsim who did the unlikely thing: Fall in love with a regular sim. This has made her an outcast among her own people. Plantsims reproduce by mixing their own spores with spores from actual plants, which provides them with all the genetic diversity they need, as well as the ability to photosynthesize. Plantsims aren't supposed to fall in love, they don't marry, and they certainly don't get pregnant.
The latter of those rules is the only one Rose has been hesitant about breaking. Instead, she and Jason are raising Daisy, Rose's spore offspring.
Their house is ever evolving. Rose, having given up living outdoors, wants their home to feel as natural as possible to her, while still providing Jason with the functionality a regular sim needs. This is what it looked like before...
...But the tree they built their house around grew at an exceptionally fast rate (Rose swears she had nothing to do with it, but Jason isn't so sure), and they've been forced to make changes to accommodate it.
A closer look.
Upstairs...
Downstairs...
A closeup of the kitchen and dining area.
And the nursery, which is a bit empty due to a strict budget. Jason insisted on the crib and changing table, even though Daisy doesn't need them. It just wouldn't feel right to him, otherwise. Besides, he's secretly hoping that he and Rose eventually will start working on finding a different use for them ...
The main living area is big and open, and feels more like a jungle floor than anything.
Luckily, the Greenmans aren't outcasts among the locals in Riverblossom Hills - far from it. They are all used to the presence of plantsims in the forest surrounding the town, but the plantsims always keep a distance. Rose is their chance to finally get close to a plantsim and ask all the questions they've been wanting answers to. Everyone knows Rose and her family. Jason isn't sure if he likes all the attention.
He really is just a regular guy who happens to have a slightly above average interest in botany.
Slightly.
He is thrilled when he finds an opening to work as a ratkeeper in a laboratory in the city. Sure, it's a kind of crappy starter job that doesn't pay much, and he didn't mind working as Mr. Roth's assistant... But he's wanted to work in the field of natural science ever since high school, and this job might allow him to head down that path! Plus, he won't have to travel as much. Rose will be happy about that.
Outside the store he meets his brother who's grilling hot dogs with some friends. Jason already knows Cleo, the roommate of Gabe's girlfriend, but Samantha Ottomas is new in town and he hasn't had the opportunity to meet her yet. She works at the local school, which is how she knows Gabe.
"So, Samantha, how do you like Riverblossom Hills so far?" Gabe asks.
"Oh, it's just lovely..."
"But really cold! I'm a little worried about the long winter everyone keeps talking about."
"Tell me about it," Cleo says, smirking. Jason has often thought Cleo seems rather out of place in a town like this. Patricia too, for that matter. He wonders if they'll eventually get fed up and move back to the city.
For now, though, it's still spring, and Rose is enjoying it to its fullest extent.
Can't forget Daisy. She may be an easy toddler to care for, but she still needs watering at least twice a day.
Daisy had this want (Hire a Gardender). It made me a little worried at first, but it was the only non-toddler want I noticed, so I'm going to assume it's a plantsim quirk!
Daisy spends most of her time, day and night, playing with her toys and learning new skills.
She also loves spending time with her surrogate dad.
Rose has plenty of time to spend on her garden. That might change if Jason manages to talk her into having a baby the "regular" way.
Jason is the only one in the house who needs any sleep...
Often, Rose keeps him company while she enjoys the light from the greenhouse lamp in their bedroom. She knows that Jason likes having a warm body to snuggle up to. It's a little awkward for both of them, sometimes, since their needs and lifestyles are so fundamentally different...
But they make it work.
They're so consumed with each other, in fact, that Daisy sometimes feels just a little bit neglected. Sporebabies need love too.
Just like all plants.
It's convenient to have family so close by, then. Daisy just adores her "cousin", Jules, and the feeling is mutual.
Seeing as they're one of the most popular families in town, the Greenmans often hold parties. That is, Rose does. She enjoys the attention and feeling of community. It reminds her of the family she left behind.
It's this longing for a big family that makes Rose finally give in to Jason's request. Plantsims are very fertile, despite their cultural ban on "regular sim reproduction". The main reason for that rule is that babies born this way won't have the abilities of a full plantsim, and when a non-plantsim is the father, the baby will be practically, well, "normal", as regular sims would put it. Still, no one has actually seen such an offspring in several generations. Both Rose and Jason are excited to see the result, but while Jason is mostly happy and curious, Rose is worried... for what her child will be like, what future it will have, but also for herself. There's no turning back now. The other plantsims will never accept her again.
