Maxis Taste Dare #32: Makeover of 290 Main Street (Pleasantview)
Those of you who follow me on Tumblr have probably seen my makeovers of Pleasantview. Dare #32 was all about making over pre-made community lots, so it fit nicely with my own makeover project. The rules said to keep with the basic theme and feel of the lot, and not change the exterior walls, which I think I've accomplished pretty nicely.
But first, some before pictures:
Not the worst pre-made lot ever. It looks okay, and is functional, if a little boring. It sells groceries, magazines and video games, and has pinball machines. I decided to spice it up a little.
In addition to a grocery store, there's now also a coffee shop. The video games store doubles as a more proper arcade, and the weird outdoors magazines/news agent thing has been moved inside and become a book store. Outside there's lots of nice sitting areas, maybe to read a book in the sunshine?
The parking lot. Thanks to Mog's excellent decorative parking spaces, there will be actual cars there during play time.
Bus stop.
Fountain. I hope all those flowers will block sims from putting soap in there. :P
The coffee shop. That snack vending machine provides the lot's only source of food. There's an archway leading to the grocery store...
Pretty standard grocery store. I still find decorating them to be so boring.
Ladies' bathroom.
Dudes' bathroom.
The video games store/arcade. It sells small electronics and has a photobooth, too. In Strangetown, aliens are a reality, but in Pleasantview they're still regarded as silly fantasy that you only find in sci-fi and children's games.
And finally, the book store, which sells magazines and newspapers. And will also double as a library, I guess, since sims can't buy books in (non-owned) community lots, but they can still read them. The job notice board is functional, sims can find a position in any job there (but still start at the lowest level, so it's not that cheaty). Both it and the newspaper rack are also by Mog.
