SO! I'm taking guitar lessons! I'll finally attempt not to suck! Anyway, here's what happened:
Naomi called me yesterday to ask if I wanted to go to a show with her. There's this local artist named Devon who was playing at the Gravity Lounge. She described the music as acousticky goodness of sorts, so I said sure and we went today.
First off, it wasn't just Devon playing; the opening act was herself with four of her students. All of the girls were beautiful and excited and beaming... the energy was just flooding off of the stage. And THEN they started to sing. Let me tell you, all four of those little high schoolers were talented. They sang and played songs that they had written. Little stories were created in front of me and I could (in the course of two songs each) begin to distinguish between their lives. One of the songs almost made me cry, which is kinda embarassing.
Then Devon came on stage by herself, and my now high expectations were met. Her story was a lot more fleshed out, being that she played a whole set unlike her students. Whether its true or not, I really got to know the girl in her songs. Towards the end of the night, she mentioned that she's always got openings for students and that they did not have to be as talented as the girls that played earlier. Well, that comforted me for sure and afterwards I got up the nerve to ask about lessons. I've got her number in my purse, now I just gotta call her.
In other news, tomorrow I will:
drive up to herndon
buy a camera
paint pretty designs on our driveway
celebrate diwali.
Speaking of diwali, which falls on a new moon every year, its comforting to see that my weather widget shows the tiniest sliver of a moon tonight.
goodnight!
