And so I challenged
jelakagain to a 90 second "stream of consciousness" post, only to have her challenge me back with a not-so-easy challenge.
The inspiration of my "stream of consciousness" challenge (I'm not patenting this just 'cos I used "my", feel free to try this out) comes from, surprise surprise, not a psychological test, but from Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway. She uses "stream of consciousness" as a style of writing.
Since I challenged Mel to this, I'll have to take it myself. How it works is that you just keep your fingers moving in lieu with whatever's appearing in your mind for 90 seconds... so while timing myself with the help of a timer, give and take 1 to 2 seconds of lag time (hey I need to adjust, no judging!), here's my stream of consciousness:
Validity.. Validity, rehearse validity: Predictive and concurrent validity. They're used for GAH WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR OH MY GOD I JUST READ THIS GAH GAH GAH THINK THINK THINK UMMMMMMMMMMMMM HMMMMMM I think they're used on selection batteries, YES THEY ARE. YES AHA. MY LONG TERM MEMORY IS STILL ACTIVE. IN YO FACE LTM. MY CHEST FEELS SORE. WHY DO MY BOOBS FEEL SORE. WHY. DON'T GROPE YOURSELF IN PUBLIC WZ. AH S*** MY PERIOD IS COMING D***IT I JUST REMEMBERED WAIL WAIL WAIL ok calm down I'll just bring a pad to school. Hmm there's a grape on the floor. Should I eat it? Ah what the heck times up.
I realize that I censor my swearing. It actually appears as asterisks in my head. Must be for the imaginary childrens' benefit.
I also realize I'm very unlike Mel, who has a steady, and rather calm, logical stream of thoughts... I on the hand, have chaos and war in my head.
Now onto Mel's challenge:
AH WA SI WU JI BA PAN ("If I had a million dollars", a hilarious Hokkien song played during Econs lecture), I would want:
I actually saw something similar in a magazine of luxury homes of Japan a few years back, and that image has stayed since. I'd love a home, on a cliff, with a lap pool, overlooking the Atlantic/Pacific Ocean. And yes, I'd love to go diving on a weekly basis.

I'm probably not allowed to use photos from others on the net due to copyright issues, but I'll credit anyone whose photos I've fallen in love with and used on this LJ. Credits to Ether, who posted this on a forum "Flyertalk", after her visit to Banyan Trees. Lovely photos.
I'd also want something like:

Although I'm not sure, after the last fiasco at my aunt's, if a swinging bed from the ceiling would work.
POSSIBLY AFFORDABLE:
I like my home to be comfortable, minimal, and quirky. A few interesting pieces would make me very happy. Like this, for example:

Should I ever have kids, I'd get one of these to make them sleep in it, to fulfill my Mother Hen tendencies.
Bedroom design.
The bedroom is the most important room, as many others believe. I do too actually, for it's the place you spend the most time in (hopefully, I like to laze around in bed), and should be the most comfortable.
When I went shopping in IKEA a few years back with a friend, Judy, who was about to officially get married, she asked a few of us what our dream bedroom would look like. So we had to pick and choose from the IKEA range, I mean, since we WERE in IKEA after all. I picked one which was very white, and very simple, with lace (not the TOO GIRLY kind) curtains at the back. She said I was very romantic. Lol. WELL. I don't think I am. I just like it... simple and pure. Ok this is how the curtain looks like:

I also like this bed, although I'll never get anything like it:

This is too stately for me, for example. Lovely, but too grandeur, too.. posh for me.

This is probably somewhat I have in mind:

Bathroom design.
For bathrooms... I like em minimal and white, and tonnes of compartments for me to put my stuff.
I also like glass in bathrooms, and a wall separating the toilet and the shower.

When I was in secondary 2, I went to a friend's place @ 3rd Avenue. Her parents' bathroom looks like this (and I love it):

But ultimately I'd prefer not to have too much wood in the bathroom.
Dining area.
Aside from the living room, the dining area is probably the other place that you can be quirky, and fun. If that's the environment you're creating for your guests :)
Comfortable cushioned chairs are a MUST-HAVE.

Living room.
Couldn't find any quirky designs, so I'll settle for the cozy and minimalist elegance.

DESIGN OF A HOUSE
This design of a house is too space agey, too futuristic, too Aeon Flux. It's cool though.

STAIRCASES
I hope for stairs and a ceiling like this! Feels like you're ascending to heaven, although admittedly, I could wait till I'm dead:

There are some really cool staircases with no handrails. Pretty to have, not practical in the long run.
Okay I think views are very important to me, after doing the challenge so far. I NEED TO FEEL LIKE AN EAGLE. I need to FEEL INFINITENESS AND BEYOND. I need to see the sky, see green, maybe one day hopefully see the ocean...I NEED PANORAMA. Which leads me to the logical conclusion that I should live in a tree. Only that I don't want to get chopped down by NPARKs when they deem it to be diseased. So the other conclusion I've drawn is that I would like to live in a high rise building (landed property here would lead to suffocation from heat (I'm too ngeow to switch on air con 24/7))... preferably a PENT HOUSE. Yay.
Another thing I would love to have is a library. Well my dad has one, and if we can squeeze one in in the space that I'm living in right now, I don't see why I can't have one either! Only that I'd prefer to have it in a room... with, as Mel says, no phones. AND NO INTERNET CONNECTION. It's a "written word only" room.

I'm getting lazy, and ohmygod I spend 1.5 hours on this.
So I don't like my home to be too English country like (think floral wallpaper), too country like, too retro and clubberish (think purple velvety sofas and disco lights), too space agey (think monochromatic black and white and a random orange pillow), too Victorian era (think gold embossed sofas and thick down feather blankets), too mod (think glass... and more glass), too Balinese (think resort style).
In essence, I have no idea what I want. Except that it must be comfortable, warm, non-pretentious, and easy to clean.
I do know that I would like to have a library, a treadmill (just to comfort myself that someday I'll get on it), a little comfortable bed by the window to watch/see/contemplate (not to sleep), a kitchen with an oven... and maybe a wall with art decor on it. Of a little bird perhaps, perched on top of a chair, like a real 3D chair you can sit on. COOL RIGHT. Then when someone tells someone else about a secret, and I know of it, I'll be able to tell others, "A little birdie told me..."
