A Student Introduction
Have you ever met a young, intelligent, witty student before? No? Oh, what a shame! Well lucky for you, there’s me! My name is Nydia Cano. I’m 19 years old and just out of high school. I went to a South TX High School of Health Professions in Mercedes, TX, but I’m originally from a smaller city north of Mercedes called Elsa, TX. Its rural community with only a 2,000 something population. I’m very interested in medicine and my future pursuit to become a Speech Pathologist. This is the reason why my current major is Communication Disorders, so hopefully I’ll be done with my degree in a couple of years.
Since I am from such a small town there is a variety of farm land surrounding me. The culture in my town is similar to the cultures in the cities of the Valley. However, it is filled with a history that isn’t widely publicized. My expectation from this course is to learn how to capture the history of my town as well as learn ways to publicize what Elsa has to offer. I volunteer at a local non- profit organization filled with rising high school students. One of their goals is to provide the community with a history of Elsa through digital story telling. This class will help me help the organization as well as for my own benefits. I’ve always had an interest in photography and recently bought a new Canon digital camera. I haven’t messed with the camera much, but hopefully after your class I’ll be able to operate with ease and benefit from it. In the past I’ve worked with the organization through a variety of photo shoots; however, I’ve been quite the novice. Any time I would go on random adventures my old camera, a Sony Cybershot, was by my side. I have a whole drive on my computer filled with images from 3 years of my life with that camera.
Photos- whether they were from travels across the border, out of state, or school functions- mean a lot to me and I can’t wait to use this class to Photoshop my way to a digital scrap book of my life.
