A Trip to the edge of Tokyo

Oct 12, 2006 16:43

I myself live in the very edge of Tokyo :9 and so I expected it'd take quite some time and money to get to the other end but it only took an hour or so to reach Asakusa. Yep, being the Edokko Tokyoite I am I had never been to Asakusa oO; It wasn't as magical as I imagined... once a place is established as the most visited must-go tourist spot, it ( Read more... )

those lyrics are from a show I LOVE called mystery science theatre 3000. Have you heard of it? Is it by any chance in japan? It's been cancelled for a while, but it was a WONDERFUL show where a Janitor and his 2 robot companions were forced to watch these REALLY BAD movies as part of an experiment by a mad scientist and his assistant to take over the world. They orbited earth in the "satellite of love" (It looked like a cartoon dog bone, honest!), and watched these movies by the scientists to find one BAD enough to break their wills. With the ultimate bad movie, the mad scientists would release this horror on the world to conquer it. It never worked. Joel (the janitor) and the robots (crow and tom servo) were like COCKROACHES! Their snappy comments to really bad movies bouyed their spirits and kept them from breaking.

It was a BRILLIANT show.

the "Gamera song" is what joel and the 'bots made up to replace the lyrics of the original japanese song the children were singing. They didn't understand it, so they made up new lyrics.

another one of the choruses was:
ALL: Gamera! Gamera!
Gamera is really neat.
Gamera is filled with meat.
We've been eating Gamera!
Shell
Teeth
Eyes
Flames
Claws
Breath
Scales
Fun!

(here is another song from a mst3k'ed movie called "wild rebels", a 1960's biker film. the music is from the movie, and they're making fun of the movie by presenting a "fake" breakfast cereal commercial)

yes, it was brilliant! Is there any chance that they show it in japan? If they do, you HAVE to see it!

I didn't name it (unfortunately), Best Brains did (the people who made mst3k). The name Satellite of love, comes from a Lou Reed song.
Don't be afraid of the roaches! I meant that joel and the bots were strong LIKE cockroaches! As in they could not be conquered or broken, not that they WERE roaches! (laughs!) nothing to fear about...
I think you'd like it, it was a WONDERFUL show!
