HAIRSPRAY UPDATE.  quite possibly the most exciting movie of the summer.
review.  it's pretty much a rave review.
I don’t know if it’s an Oscar performance, but I do know that when “Hairspray” is shown in big theaters (I saw it in a screening room, still a little unfinished), audiences are going to go wild with cheers and whistles.

i'm not sure if this is going to work, but here's a hairspray clip of "ladies first", this song from the middle of the trailer.

yeah. but yeah. me and jess have taken up to dancing along to this video.

the epitome of physical goofiness: dancing (not in the cool way. in the "jumping around" sort of way.). epitome of verbal goofiness: improv. the two people who i feel 100% comfortable goofy dancing with: jess and bristin.

this is really harsh. damn. like.... i think that she definitely crossed a line here. that's just plain mean.

(the clip might get taken down, so here's the transcript:)
S: In a couple of days, Paris Hilton will be going to jail. (Crowd claps and cheers enthusiastically for a couple seconds, camera focuses on Paris.) Wow. Wow. Thank you. The judge says that it's going to be a no frills thing, but that is totally ridiculous. She's gonna get special treatment. In fact, I heard that in order to make her feel "more comfortable" in prison, the guards are going to paint the bars to look like penises. (Mixed reaction from crowd.) Is that?... I think it's wrong too. I just worry that she's going to break her teeth on those things. Anyway, (Camera pans back to Paris) oh sweetie... Wow, why do I feel dirty.

it's like straight out of minority report!!!

this past week was really rough.  like i essentially stayed up every night to the "i'm falling asleep at my desk" point, and then waking up to be stressed out and deciding to wake up early to finish the work.  which is fairly stressful.

things to use when working with groups:
1) google groups is really incredible.  especially as an online file repository.
2) http://www.when2meet.com/ is a great site for finding out when people can meet.

luckily, i just passed my "hump", and am fairly "free sailing" till the end of the year.
--math paper
--201 lectures and final
--223 final
--cs103b final
--254 self-grading and eval
--packing......
in 8 days?  please.  it's in the bag.  lol...

the tone of the speakers is just so well done.

class snooper.  from math class: (severely paraphased...)
"as you can see, doing this would clearly be retarded.... oh wait, i can't really say that..... this point is not within the graph."
okay.  hopefully you're laughing.  thanks, jim.

mp3's!!!  these songs have sort of made my musical drought better.
the veronicas - 4ever - okay.  this is filed into "girl angsty band music", ie avril, virtually every song in the freaky friday soundtrack, etc.  but i really think this song is awesome because 1) i think the lyrics are so happy and appropriate, 2) the harmonies are incredible.  i wish they didn't enunciate "er-uh" in the "4ever" in such a way that made it sound so girly, but otherwise, i am currently crazy about this song. absurd looping action right now.  it's like a drug.
high school musical 2 - what time is it - this is the newest song released from the HSM2 soundtrack!!! it's not very good!!  but yeah.  i'm sure once i watch the movie, i'll love the song.  that tends to be the case with a lot of my songs.
hairspray - ladies choice - the NEW song written EXCLUSIVELY for the movie/zacefron.  it's really happy and sort of mind numbing, but really happy nonetheless.  from the clip above.
ciara - like a boy - it's classical/hip hop fusion!!! which is one of my favorite genres.  i am not entirely sure what else meets this genre.

olympic logo controversy - courtesy stace

"Lord Coe has described this logo as 'ambitious, interactive and youth-friendly'. I would describe it as hideous," he said.

"Questions need be answered as to how we have ended up in this situation. Was there an open competition to supply the designs? If so, what on earth do the rejected ones look like!

"We need to know how much money this exercise has cost, because whatever it was, it's been a complete waste of money."

Initial public reaction was also less than positive.

"This logo makes me embarrassed to be English," said a contributor called Clumbers on one online message site devoted to the logo, which was devoid of supporters of the chosen design.

"It looks like it could have been done by a six year old. I could do better with my eyes closed," added someone called Bige.

pretty harsh.   if it were an AMBIGRAM, i think that would be cooler.  but yeah.  i sort of don't understand why it's so unreadable.  or so jagged.  it would make sense as a winter games logo, i think....

damn straight.  best olympic games ever.

... not that i follow anything remotely sport related.

took me awhile to get this, but ... yeah.  we definitely have one of these at my high school.  lol.

what has been up with toothpaste for dinner and married to the sea being so bad recently?  i dunno.

CNN. babysitter lets kids die - this would suck so bad.
The babysitter told state police she put the girls down for a nap Wednesday and then took a nap herself. When she awoke, 20-month-old Jenna Walker and 2-year-old Maggie Kovski were gone, state police Cpl. Mark Zaleski said.

Rescuers were called at about 11:15 a.m. after the baby sitter found the bodies floating in a small, man-made fishing pond about 100 yards away from the home.

Chris Barber, chief of Stancliff Hose Co., said the 18-year-old sitter was frantically trying to help the children when emergency workers arrived.

finales recap.
shear genius: Ben: I don't have a lot of people who I look up to... but if there is a god in the hairdressing world, it is Vidal Sassoon.
decent.  although i'm "done" with the show, i think.  sort of like...
heroes: yeah.  sort of lackluster, although i'm glad they had a 1) all out good versus evil battle.  which is definitely something that they still haven't done in the xmen trilogy, as far as i can tell. 2) tied up most loose ends of the show.  definitely done with this show.  like... not to vindicate jim, but it definitely had its moments and was good at what it was.

nicole leaving.  i was talking to jules about this.  and jules said he "felt sad." JULES HAS FEELINGS, PEOPLE.  this definitely deserves an article in the daily.

veronica mars.  i want to write about veronica mars,  the clip from yesterday.  why it's great:
--the scene where you're looking around, and everyone is in a freaking couple.
--how piz is such a great guy.
--this whole romantic notion of "going all the way" and just putting yourself all out there and just taking this huuuuge chance.  and it paying off.
--this idea that you could have a crush on someone and have that same person like you back.

in house draw.  i feel like for every in-house draw that i've been to, it's been really really inefficiently run with very easy improvements.  it's frustrating.  luckily,  it doesn't "matter".  but still.

tying into the grand james theory wrt what i like in a person.
We've finally zeroed in on what makes Johnny Depp so incredibly HOT - besides his obvious good looks. It's his ability to accessorize without looking like he's trying too hard.
i lost the link, but this is so true.  like trying too hard is like one of the biggest turn offs i have.  fighting for attention is really bothersome for me.

azia kim update.  DANIEL N WAS ON NATIONAL TELEVISION.
NOVINSON: This is an absolutely crazy story, Greta. You've been doing this a lot longer than I have, but I know I've never heard of anything quite like this.
there is a freaking transcript of daniel interviewing someone.

presentations.  i was in a class this quarter that did one of those "let's do all of our final presentations in one day".  it was supposed to go from 1-7PM, but of course they were running late and didn't finish until 8:30.  (absurd.)  thoughts on presentations:
--dude.  this one guy had this really mindblowing template.  like it just looked so sleek and sexy.  and it's like.. powerpoint slides are the perfect example of how some visual intuition can go along way.  cuz it's so easy to look boring or tacky or really unprofessional with templates.  but what is the difference?!?! imo, absolutely undefinable.
--i definitely missed the memo that we were supposed to use their template (the person above decided to overachieve.).  yeah.  that was embarrassing.  and to top it off, i definitely got the date wrong on my title slide.  and i feel like someone with good stage prescence could have TOTALLY used that as part of his intro joke.  i tried.  and i failed.  it was awesome.  i still can't pull off stuff like that.
--my heart still races.  like a lot.
--i used to think i was pretty pro at presentations.  i spend a -really- long time rehearsing.  (i think i'm currently around 1 hr practice ->2 min presentation).  but after missing the first joke, it was sort of all downhill from there.  i lost my confidence and everything just went with that.  yeah.  a;sdlfkjasl;dkfjadf.

on being a bad student.  i feel like i'm a bad student.  but not in the way that you normally think!  like bad students are those that skip class all the time, flake out on homework, and just don't care.  me, on the other hand, i go to class, but i'm fairly disrespectful.  like i fall asleep a lot, and generally just don't pay attention.  and although i learn the info, i definitely don't engage it or become interested in it, for the most part, in an intellectual sort of way.  i'm really in it just for the grade.  some things don't change.
