Big finish...

New Year's Eve - not my favourite time of year by any means! In fact, that show "Grumpy Old New Year" could have been made for me. I'm not sure which of the many things about it I dislike so much though - oh well.

Two of the Big Finish Audios I ordered have arrived. "Land of the Dead" arrived Friday and "The Mutant Phase" arrived yesterday. Of course, I've listened to both! And enjoyed them greatly. Much more than I thought I would. It's so wonderful - almost like a sinful pleasure - to put the cd in, put headphones on, sit back, close my eyes and lose myself in a "new" adventure. A new "classic" series adventure. Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton may sound older but, and here's the best bit, they both still have the essential parts and "sounds" of their characters down pat. The rising panic in Davison's voice and the quite delightful way he tries to quickly explain something in a way that makes sense is wonderful - and so evocative of his era that it makes your toes curl.

As far as the "Mutant Phase" goes...remember the early days of audios? When it was Bill Baggs etc and they were released on cassette tape? The ones where Nicholas Briggs played the Doctor? I still have a number of them - "Cloud of Fear" being one! If I remember right however, wasn't one of those called or about "The Mutant Phase"? It's one I don't have but I DO remember hearing a trailer for it on one of the tapes. Interesting. Wonder how close it was to the Nicholas Briggs written one here.

Sad bugger here though even giggled at the "pun" Davison's Doctor made at the end of "The Mutant Phase" about time paradoxes. "Omega" is the next one I ordered - which hasn't arrived from play.com yet. Once I've got it I'll go back to the beginning and get them in order. So "Phantasmagoria" will be next followed by "Red Dawn".

Worringly there's also a part of me that would be quite happy for Dr Who to continue on Audio like this instead of on television. I enjoyed these two so much more than I did the last season on Tv. Maybe I just like using my imagination?

Ah well - Happy New Year all!
