Everyone's always asking me how I get my hair so big and how I do my pomp, so here ya go!
First, you're going to have to stop calling it a bump, a poof, a duff puff or any other silly name you call it. It's a pompadour! Or a pomp, for short. :)
This serves as a teasing and a pomp tutorial. SCORE!
Before you begin, you'll need a few things:
A comb. I use an Ace teasing comb.
A good hairspray. I alternate between Aquanet 3 and Got 2b Blasting Freeze Spray.
And last but certainly not least...bobby pins! I use 4 at most, but it's really up to you how many you use.
And this is me with some flat hair! H'okay, let's get started!
Take a piece of hair no bigger than one inch by one inch.
Now, hold onto the end of your hair gently and push down from about halfway down your hair to the root. Repeat this a few times.
Spray with hairspray, but not too much!
This is what it should look like when you've down about 2 teasing layers in. If you're only doing a pomp, and don't plan on teasing your hair any further, then skip down to the step where I begin smoothing my hair out.
As you can see, Ive not teased past my crown yet. I tease about 2-3 inches past where I stopped in the back there for more volume in the back.
Keep teasing. Gently hold the hair at the ends and make good knots at the roots. But don't make them TOO bulky and tight or you'll have a tough time shaping your hair afterwards.
Spray the last pieces you back combed with hairspray.
Now you have a big rats nest. Let's move onto the next step, shall we?
Now for the PAAAINNN!!!
JUST KIDDING!
Begin to gently smooth out the top layer of your hair with your comb. Don't comb too much, because you'll be combing it some more after you put your pomp up.
Remember to shape the back the way you want it to look!
Now, you'll probably want to redo the front of your hair again. I usually do, anyways. I make the knots a little longer (tease more) and then smooth it out gently.
Section off the amount of hair you'd like up in your pomp. Hold it up and make it the shape you'd like with your hands if it's oddly shaped by this point.
Now, pull it back and push it forward into a nice big pomp!

Now this is where your bobby pins come into play. Don't let go of your pomp or it'll flop over and look awkward. Pin it down before you let go.

Spray it with some hairspray and smooth it with your hand.
Yeah boi!!
I bet you feel pretty cool now that you've gone a gorgeous pomp and some big, rockin' hair!
Now stop asking me how I do my hair.
...Kidding!
All you've got to do now is throw on a cute outfit and hit the town. :)
I have long, thin hair that's only layered on the ends and this method of doing a pomp lasts for days! Seriously, I wouldn't lie to you!
Good luck!
