Jon touched his chest, numbness was spreading, his heart turning to stone. He let it. It was better than feeling; that sharp throb of pain as hope left, the ragged bleeding wound that stayed.
The air was as cold, as bleak, as his emotions. Unfallen tears frosted his lashes.
Jon ignored the scurry behind him and when a hand touched his shoulder the heat registered before the contact, a scant memory of living.
He'd come after all, the stone of Jon's heart crumbled as warm fingers brushed his face and his lips rose in a trembling smile, that was echoed.
