The 'Just get in the car' story now has a spin off drabble-fest starting for Carl and Mike (thank you Charis, Saskia!)
Thinking I might write - first meeting, the wedding sneak off, catching the bouquet & meeting family.  So 3-4 drabbley-thingies unless other prompts are offered?

First Meeting - 785words

Bryan stared resolutely through the car windscreen doing an impression of the world’s most careful driver.  He was a respectable degree below the roads speed limits, though his natural instinct to race ahead to get the commute over with had his knuckles whitening on the steering wheel.  Regardless, Bryan made sure to signal turns, kindly let the old biddy from the corner shop out at the junction and tried not to grit his teeth as he spent the next twenty minutes travelling at snail pace, reading her ‘cute, quirky’ bumper stickers.

‘Bryan-Sweetie?’
‘What?’
‘Those pretty flashing lights behind?  Bryan-Sweetie I think they mean pull over!  I mean the disco era is sadly over and the car looks all official’

This announcement of doom was delivered with a beatific smile.  The unwitting would claim that Bryan’s passenger radiated innocence like a visiting angel; well his mother had once claimed that, but she’d been tipsy at the time and even then she hadn’t kept a straight face!  Bryan just thought you couldn’t choose your family, nor the family that came with the man he fully intended to make his family.  It all made sense in his head.

‘I hate the police’
‘Re-eally’ Too knowing.  Simon had obviously been blabbing.  If he didn’t love his fiancé so much… well, it was a good thing he did. ‘I love a man in uniform, mmm, I love a man out of uniform too, and the getting the man out of the uniform, and…’
‘Yeah Carl.  I get the picture’
‘It’s a nice picture isn’t it Sweetie? But should you really be picturing me naked just before you marry my baby brother?  I don’t think I approve’

At the press of siren Bryan gave in to the inevitable and pulled in to see what today’s imagined infraction was.  He’d been pulled in for having a dusty car, for forgetting to buy doughnuts at the corner shop - that also came with a reminder to buy milk, for not parking nearer to the florist and for driving around after six o’clock on a Saturday - apparently the law felt he’d be better at home snuggling his honey.

Getting out of his vehicle Bryan glared at the policeman swinging out of his patrol car to stroll over with a stern official look.  The man was tall, broad and intimidating.  Bryan no longer cared.

‘What is it this time?’
‘Saw your car idling and noticed you had an interesting passenger, thought it my duty to see you weren’t up to your old tricks’
‘This is harassment.  I could sue’ Bryan glared at Carl who was peering out the window and offering a coy wave.
‘Nah you don’t want to do that Bryan, I hate paperwork, would have to write really slow to get it all right.  You’d end up late for your own wedding’

‘I’ve collected my fiancé’s brother from the airport and I’m taking him home.  Or trying too’
‘Your fiancé‘s brother?’  Best to ignore the creeping note of interest.
‘Carl.’ A stare. ‘Carl this is officer Mike, officer Mike this is Sime’s older brother, Carl.’

‘Hello Sweetie-pie’ A happy grin and wave that got a curt nod ‘I’ve been dy-ing to meet you.  Ignore the bro-to-be, older! there’s only a year between us, I’m only the bigger brother where it counts’ eyebrows wiggled and Bryan gritted his teeth ‘You’ll be at the wedding?  I’m best man you know?  it’s my duty to see special guests have a good time; this time the lashes fluttered.
‘I’ll be there’ Bryan did not imagine seeing the man swallow.  Oh gawd in her heaven! His ‘bro-to-be’ was flirting with his nemeses and his nemeses was ..interested?

‘I need to get home and, feed the cat’  That he didn’t have a cat was inconsequential.  He’d find a damn cat and feed it.
‘Uh-huh.  Oh I spoke to Simon a bit ago, promised if I saw you I’d flag you down’ Snickers came from the front of the car, Carl squirming in place. ‘Said he had to pop to the shops for some last minute bits and that you should take Carl here straight to his mothers’  Carl got another tilt of the head ‘Right then, charmed to meet you Carl, later’

Bryan got back into his car and banged his head on the steering wheel.

‘I wish your brother would remember how to use his mobile instead of drafting in his own private police force all the time’  Carl was strangely quiet.
‘His own private police force’ was murmured with an awed giggle, followed by an ‘Officer Mike’ and then an even quieter ‘charmed! later!’ he hummed an annoying, distracted tune the rest of the way home.
