I found out today that one of my co-workers who's about my age (Christine) doesn't know who Marilyn Monroe is.
Seriously.
No idea.
She said, "That girl in the white dress over the thing? .... She was on broadway, right? ... Pardon me for not knowing some chick from the Eighties."
OK, so.... I'm sure you know that set me off. My 20 year old co-worker (Alexsandra) started quizing her on everything movie-related under the sun. Who's Katherine Hepburn? Who's Audrey Hepburn? Are they related? What movies was Jimmy Stewart in?
She had no clue.
This is one of my major pet peeves. I hate people who refuse to know common cultural knowledge. And she might have thought I was just giving her a hard time, but my respect for her fell by about half today. How could you be so OK with being culturally illiterate? She watches movies constantly, and has no IDEA who these people are???
Oh! And Happy New Cool Prez, everyone. May we all be better off for it. (I'd bug you about pics, Gidge, but I still haven't posted pics of my xmas tree. No worries, tho - it's still up. :-p)
