Okay, I don't have a lot of experience with "this sort of thing," but I just can't fathom these stories when I hear them -- how does this happen? "Oh, woops. There's a baby inside me, and he's ready to come out."

Wow. I mean, I know a huge proportion of "pregnancies" end in miscarriage without the woman even knowing, but this is right on the edge. I mean, it's WAY early for a natural birth (3.5 months early!) but pretty late for a miscarriage. And by five months, I'd be surprised if she didn't have ANY symptoms. But then again, every pregnancy is different!

What a surprise!

My mother figured it out with me when she was about 6 hours late getting her period, so I imagine there must be some women on the opposite end of the menstrual regularity bell curve from her.

Yeah, it'd have to be three months or so before I figured I ought to check. I'm at the other end!

I have a college friend who gave birth to a full-size kid whom she didn't know she was carrying until she was 6 cm dilated. And the details get vastly gorier from there. Her birth experience made mine look like a walk in the park.

To be fair -- some women are hardly showing at 5 months, and at 6 months I could see that still being the case since this guy was so tiny. I was surprised this could happen until I read that he was 2 pounds ... that's 25 percent of my birth weight.

Teeny teeny baby. But yes, still kind of amazing.

I love the description that she was touring pubs in a bumble-bee outfit.
