Long as I got my Plastic Ganesha Riding on the dashboard of my car.

Hey guys, remember me? ;P

Life has been crazy and exciting. So I'm gonna do some catching up behind a cut. So, we're getting our computers repaired, seeing an eye doctor next weekend, both working the tax season, and got our broke-ass selves a hybrid car.

That last one is the result of a blessing in a really really clever disguise as a nasty four car pile-up in which our dear Pavan was totaled. They set up some construction on the interstate where 13 pile ups occurred soon after in the exact same spot. Karen was in the first set of accidents. Fortunately, Karen only got a little bruised up and is totally fine as is everyone else who was involved. That was really really scary, but she's fine. Pavan was a total loss, and the only car that was really trashed. Poor little Corolla didn't stand a chance against the big ol truck that stopped suddenly in front of him.

So, after the insurance took care of things (gap coverage GOOD) we had to go in search of a new to us car. We looked into used cars, and were shocked to find some old Priuses relatively close to our price range. Sadly, the silver one we were ridiculously excited about at $8000 was taken already by the time we got down there, but we test drove a delightful 2004 car of the future and were blown away by it's fanciness. It's way too fancy for us, but we got it way below Blue Book and our payments on it are less than we had to pay for the Carolla. And the money we're about to save on gas... OMFG.

It's only had one owner, and the only reason he traded it in was so he could get the 2010 version of the same car. It has the anti-lock break traction control that's Colorado friendly and poor Pavan didn't have, and I can' tell you how safe I feel in it. And holy crap, GPS? O_O I swear the thing has a flux capacitor. It's just kinda awe inspiring that we have this thing. The keys never leave my purse, and still it opens and runs and everything. It's unreal. That these existed in 2004 blows my mind.

We're naming him Pilot, after Moya's Pilot on Farscape. Cause something sci-fi suits him and he's even a similar sort of brown-gold color.

So yes! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to us, love Ganesha!

Still spending more time on Facebook lately... sorry guys. I still exist though!

Now, I know I have a lot of crafty people on my flist, and I need some advice. Google has given me some mixed messages, and for the most part is talking about resin molds when I try to look this up... But Dashboard Ganesh lost his delicate ears in the car accident. I've taken to repairing him myself with Sculpey (which matches his skin perfectly miracles of miracles) and have managed to sculpt some very lovely replacement ears onto his precious little head. The question now is... how do I finish it?

I'm 90% sure that Dashboard Ganesh is resin. We got him off e-bay forever ago, and he came in a shell which he no longer resides in. He's already painted, and the paint doesn't want to stay on as is. His pants faded in the sun, and I'm going to repaint those as soon as I figure out how to bake his ears. I don't want to repaint all his beautiful details though, nor risk him cracking in the oven.

So how do I make this work? Leave his ears unbaked? Bake him slow at a low temp? What? I've never done a project like this before, and am eager to finish him up and put him in Pilot. It's not the same driving around without Dashboard Ganesh. Even with a flux capacitor.

EDIT: Yay, Dashboard Ganesha is baked!... that doesn't sound right... but he made it out of the oven just fine with brand new ears. :D Now we just need to paint and mount him! Oh, and add a finish! Thanks so much!
