Memeage! Was gonna do this tomorrow, but insomnia strikes so I'll go ahead and finish it now. :)
Comment here and I'll pick 7 of your icons, you explain here or in your LJ what they mean to you and why you're using them.
copperwise asked about 7 more of mine, which are explained under the cut.
I love mixing it up when it comes to my fangirling, so I multi-fandom icons amuse me to no end. I made this one because whenever I see that particular image of Jareth going "Wait!" I always think of this bit by
Eddie Izzard explaining Christianity. He's my favorite stand up comedian, so my icons quote him a lot. :) Nobody tells history like Eddie!
This is a quote that's originally referring to cats, but I think suits snakes just as beautifully. Basically it's more of my serpent PR program. The snake in the icon is my girl Ma-tsu the Vietnamese Blue Beauty for whom the saying is particularly apt. <3
This is a screenshot from the movie Frida. Surrealism is one of my absolute favorite art styles, and Frida Kahlo was a fascinating and talented surrealist who's work I've gotten to see in person when her collection was coming through town. The movie is amazing, one of my faves as well. I have a few icons from the movie but rarely use them because I'm not sure when they'd be appropriate. This one is a painting she did of herself floating in her deathbed on fire, but mixed with the cinematography of Selma Hayek who was playing her. I always think to use her icons when I'm feeling ill or something, but then I think of the pain she was living with and decide not to. But I keep them anyway because they're beautiful.
Another Eddie Izzard quote, which can be found
here. I'm a big fan of
Mana, who makes appearances in many of my icons. I figure if anybody, is as Eddie describes, an executive transvestite, Mana sure is! All class. ;) On the flip side, I figured Buffalo Bill was a pretty damn good example of a creepy fucking weirdo transvestite.
Religion + Science = One True Pairing! I sincerely believe that these two should more than just get along. Science is not out to get Religion. In fact I was lead to my spiritual path by science, after getting fascinated by String Theory. The entire universe being an elaborate orchestra of tiny vibrating strings that make up... well, everything! AUM is the sacred vibration or sound upon which the universe is built. So in the icon, I made an image from The Elegant Universe with an AUM symbol in front and spinning lotus in back. I've always been a lover of science, and any religion that strives to suppress it I feel sorry for. Really, it's all just semantics. I don't think knowing how something works makes it any less a miracle.
Hehe, more cross-fandom! I love Star Trek and I love Red Dwarf. The quote is from
Ace Rimmer of Red Dwarf... who's hard to explain if you haven't seen the show. But that particular "Aren't I fantabulous? I'm off to save everyone now!" attitude/tone of Ace's suits Kirk all too well so when we saw this icon, Karen and I fell over! I could not help but gank it. I use it to express that attitude. ^_^
This is my gloomy mood icon these days, taken from
this French & Saunders skit that mocks Ingmar Bergman's films. It kind of expresses and helps lift that mood at the same time, because French & Saunders amuse me greatly. I also have a crush on Jennifer Saunders. A Bergman sort of day is not the sort of day you want to have. And man, youtube makes explaining these a LOT easier!

Um... the end! I try to sleep again.
