I guess there's always some change in the weather

*takes a peek at the Oscar winners* Pan's Labyrinth... only 3 Oscars? Well, best to not be greedy and share the wealth. ;) I'm also pleased to see Marie Antoinette won for costumes, Karen and I just saw that recently and adored it. Beautifully done. Little Miss Sunshine also won with good reason, that was a delightfully warped movie! I have to admit I haven't seen many of the other winners, but Pan's Labyrinth cleaned up as predicted. :) We didn't actually watch the Oscars (despite how much I adore Ellen DeGeneres, but then we missed the Jon Stewart one too and also a big fan) instead we were enjoying another del Toro film via Netflix. The Devil's Backbone. Excellent film, although it pales after having seen Pan's Lab, so we gave it 4 out of 5. Similar themes though... isolated community in the midst of Civil War, and what it brings out in people from the eyes of a child. And as always, I adore del Toro's use of color.

This weekend Karen and I went down to the mall as my last pair of jeans have finally died. Karen was delighted to get to throw them away! Found a really good deal on a cozy pair, and we also headed in to the bookstore. Man... it's been way too long since we've been in a bookstore. Not since we went down to Mesa to see MirrorMask. Mmm... books... Unedible therapy... I was sad that the Hindu section was so small, but I got myself a small and lovely copy of the Gita, the very poetic translation by Sir Edwin Arnold. Already, I find this version that much more touching and moving than the other version I read, which is really saying something. This also means I can return the 3 other copies I have to the library. ;) Karen got a little book called "Don't sweat the small stuff at work" that looks very cute and handy. Browsing the "new aged" section was enlightening... I'm not half as impressed with that section as I used to be. There's a few good authors over there on Shamanism etc but for the most part it's a bit... I dunno. I've outgrown it, I guess. It was a surprising realization. I didn't feel that way in the New Aged shop in Sedona, but there was a lot of variety in there including gorgeous artwork and statuettes. Barnes & Noble... not so much.

Also this weekend the local LDS bishop and minion (I forget who his companion was, another guy in a suit) popped by to check in on Karen. She forgot to sign her removal from the Church request and he wanted to make sure it was really what she wanted. It was brief and they were really nice, so that was cool. Karen said yes she was sure, laughed over forgetting to sign, invited them in (which was followed by a "Oh, a real live snake!" response to seeing Ma-tsu, lol) but they were in a hurry. Seemed like nice guys, must suck to have to go door to door to people resigning from the Mormon church.

Lets see... there's probably something else, but I forget... distracted by Heros being on. So here's a vid that makes me smile! Viva le Bollywood!

Oh, how could I forget! Daphne is doing wonderful, she's so happy and active now! She runs up to us to get pet and is so affectionate! It's like she's saying thank you, and realizes we helped her get better. :) Such a sweetheart.
