Taking a break from maybe possibly having finished a commission piece, I made some icons! I've been spying a lot of Giftmas stuff about already so I figure it's time to get into the spirit in my own grinchy way. I don't know what it is about that particular season. It doesn't matter what you call it either, or what religion, or anything. Just something about it depresses and annoys me. It sucks in November like a black hole, and I just find it all generally tacky and hideous. *shrugs* That's the way it is. Plus this whole denial of Christmas being a holiday and calling it one being offensive causes my braincells pain.
But there are a few exceptions to my distaste! I do like winter scenes, natural all white and blue with touches of green... I like Carol of the Bells, and those Father Christmas style Santas. I like the smell of pine and the excuse to buy things for my loved ones. I think that's why I tend to relate more to the Grinch than say Scrooge. I *adore* the Scrooge stuff but I do like buying things for people when I can, so I'm not really a Scrooge. It's the noise and "in your face"ness that bothers me. People get vicious and nasty at the stores, and it's all so obnoxious. So I lean more Grinch and just wish it would go away for the sake of some nice peaceful winter quiet.
I used to be a LOT worse about it though. I mean, I was a hater. A serious hater. November/December came around, and it was like a whole month of PMS which lingered till sometime in February when the decor finally starts to go away. I'm not that bad anymore. I'm embracing my inner Grinch. I would love to decorate all wintry, skipping the neon bright greens and reds. I shop for family before the Giftmas craze really gets going (the mall is a ghost town the day before Thanksgiving! Though I do most my shopping online these days anyway). I'll wear stuff that says "Bah Humbug" or Grinch oriented, and hey... that's Giftmasy, isn't it? So I'm in the spirit without being in the spirit. Makes life more enjoyable for myself and everyone around me.
Funny, I spent way more time than I should have looking for the adorable Sesame Street style Grinches, only to end up using the Chuck Jones one for myself. But the expression is more true to my feelings on the matter, lol. Still, the other style is SO cute and fuzzy! I may use one of those too. I need to draw a cute Grinch. Gah, I need to draw lots of things! Anyway... All are gankable!
On a kinda related note, I don't normally go for Marilyn Manson (Sweet Dreams should NOT be that disturbing :P), but this is very very fun...
Danny Elfman's "This is Halloween" as done by Marilyn Manson!
