Last night was very cool, we took the bus down to Tempe and watched a play at the college down there which was directed by Karen's talented old friend from Jr. High. She was a sweetheart! It was nice to meet her as well as Karen's other old friend who was there. :) Mill ave is a pretty surreal place, that was where we saw Mirror Mask last time we were in Tempe and the college is on the same street. It was awesome to soak up some of that bohemian college atmosphere while we were there, I really really needed that.
The play was called "Apologies" by Brian Karl, done in the round with fixed lighting and only 6 characters. Beautifully done play about teenaged suicide, and very poignant imho. We didn't know what the play was going to be about till we got there, very intense and thoughtful focusing on the lack of communication on all sides. The actors and the director all did a lovely job. Having been in that situation, I have to say that it was awfully accurate. Luckily my own experiences didn't end up that way.
After the play and after-play dialog, Karen and I decided to walk along Mill for a while before calling our cab. Soak in some more bohemian atmosphere. And boy, was there plenty of it! That street is always busy it seems like, spray-paint artists on the corners, people singing and theme restaurants and coffee houses. One guy stood on a chair on the corner preaching about Intelligent Design and how it didn't matter what any of us believed in, God was still almighty over everything else and we were all going to hell. Karen and I thought that looked like a very unpleasant way to spend one's weekend! Especially with a small crowd of people arguing with him hanging around.
We went into the Borders that was there, which was dangerous and we did end up leaving with 3 books. In Cold Blood by Trueman Capote (captivating...), Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire, and Lamb by my sister's favorite author Christopher Moore. I've been real curious to read his stuff and it was hard to pick one. It was between Lamb and Island of the Sequined Love Nun... I'm still REAL curious about that second one, but we opted for the one that didn't have a neon pink cover.
I DID get the
Blue Beauty Care Sheet done, woo hoo! Also, Neptune ate!! *happy dance* Turns out that he finds it helpful when I drape his food over something. It's a good angle for him with his jaw issues to get the meal down. I'm going to do that from now on. He's had it rough. I'm going to take a cab to get him and Ma-tsu a thorough vet check-up very soon.
Karen is *gung ho* about the
NIC rabbit cage, so we'll be doing that real soon too. Inexpensive and easy to put together 3 level bunny condo. I bet Amarin could use the same method to make a nice pigeon or chicken cage too down the road! It's pretty awesome. We can even add onto it later on without having to buy a bigger cage!
So, yeah, all around good and busy weekend. :) Whew!
