So one of my colleagues shared a story with me today. He was working in the ED and he had a patient he was treating last week.
This patient had pin-point pupils and an altered sensorium, but was awake and talking. He had fallen in the street and injured his arm. My coworker was putting a splint on his arm. And, the whole reason this story came up, this patient was wearing an Obama T-shirt. My coworker decided to strike up a conversation.
Uderpaid Doc: So, I guess you are voting for McCain.
Patient: No Doc, I'm voting for Obama, ya know why?
Underpaid Doc: No, why?
Patient: So your $250 thousand salary gets cut to $200 thousand and my $13 thousand goes up to $63 thousand.
Exactly why, assuming I actually made that much money, would I owe this gentleman one fifth of my salary?
