The ups and downs of the England football fan

So we were painfully bad on friday against Algeria.  I only got to see the 2nd half, cos I couldn't sneak that much time away from work. I took a really really late lunch and watched the game in a bar right nearby with one of the lads who works in another building off of GC. We ground out a 0-0 draw and it was bad, we couldn't thread passes together, no one seemed in form and it was just painful. I came back to work depressed and unable to concentrate. A lot of people noticed! Apparently I seemed very sad. Not ideal.

But then today, well... we were good but not awesome. The first half sounded good - we scored and it sounded like we were all over the Slovenians (I listened on ESPN radio). I went down to a different bar to watch the 2nd half (that first bar was obviously unlucky!) and the first 10-15 mins of the 2nd half were good, we even had a disallowed goal. But then it started to get a bit nervy. But never mind, we hung in there for a 1-0 win and got thru to the next round.

At the very moment that the final whistle blew on the England game, USA who had been pushing for a goal finally scored in the other game, so the entire bar erupted with excitable English and Americans. It was awesome. But now that the dust has settled and we've been looking at the next round, it's not so awesome. We could have done with coming top of our group, rather than 2nd. Now instead of Serbia, followed by (probably) Uraguay, we have to face Germany followed by (probably) Argentina. Not ideal.

But never mind, we are rejoicing in our progress into the next round. Woop woop.
