[Jin, who has been spending his time staying in doors due to the rain, will come out upon hearing the noise. It is very different, after all, from the sound of the shadows. He'll stop to look at the machine, then look at the Doctor.]

A phone booth?

[Oh hey, another visitor! Spectator? Jin receives a friendly wave.]

Police box! Kind of a phone booth, except for... police.

I didn't realize police used such a thing.

They do! Did. 1960's, England, police'd use them to contact one another or the station or what have you. Pretty ingenious really.

Hmm. Intriguing.

[Jin's going to take a stroll around as much of the box as he can. They have something a bit similar at home, but not quite this. So it's fascinating, as he's fairly sure this place is based off Lost Jerusalem.]

So why was it making such a strange noise?

Strange? [He perks up at that like an animal caught off guard.]

No, it's not strange. [--but his expression lightens up immediately.] I left the breaks on.

[Jin catches that he may have said something wrong, and gives an apologetic smile]

I'm afraid it is strange to me. It isn't like things I usually hear.

[Oh no, he wasn't offended or hurt--merely... surprised and mildly indignant.]

Unfamiliar though it may be to you, I can assure you it's a fantastic sound. [Now he's just pulling your leg.] You'll become used to it in short order.

[Jin nods. If it's being used around here, then he probably will get used to the noise.]

What does it do? It seems as if it isn't an ordinary phone booth or police box. Especially as you spoke about the brakes.

[The Doctor paces slowly, giving an approving nod.]

Head on your shoulders, you have. It's a TARDIS--Time And Relative Dimensions In Space.

[Jin frowns softly. The acronym could imply a lot of things. The ones that come to mind, although not entirely unheard of to Jin, were very unlikely where he came from without the assistance of basically the Gods, or the U.M.N. system, which was close enough to God anyway.]

And it does? I can surmise several ideas from the name, but... Well, as it isn't something from where I existed, I don't like to assume.

Put simply, it's a time machine.

[So it was... Jin's going to look between The Doctor and the TARDIS for a moment, his look obviously surprised. The last time he had skipped years, it was mostly due to Wilhelm and the Testaments. Neither set needed help.]

A time machine, that doesn't use the power of the Gods?

[The Doctor leans against the TARDIS, thoroughly amused.]

Science. A time machine that uses science, and the power of the stars.

[Jin shakes his head faintly]

Even with the advanced technology of my world, we had never been able to go through time and space. That required much different skills.

Did you build this?

Build? No... no, I... [He takes on a very, very thoughtful expression. Amused. A little embarrassed or mischievous.]

... I borrowed it.
