[Today Luke is out blowing his money shopping! He took a detour through the upper class shops, and the other townsfolk seem to be more or less ignoring his presence. Already he’s done a little shopping, buying some food and items he’ll think will be useful in the future. Luckily, this place wasn’t devoid of interesting puzzles, books, and games, so

[Deciding to leave the confines of the tenant house for the day, Alois just happens to be doing a little window shopping of his own. He debates going into a few of the shops to do nothing more than to inspect the merchandise up close-- and to completely rearrange it just to make more work for the employees. It's good sport.

Eying the small kid he gets another idea. The only time he spoke to Luke was over the device so he doesn't put the voice and the face together]

You like that hat?

[Alois came up beside Luke and spoke in a sing song voice]

Hmm? Oh yes! It reminded me of someone from home!

Then why don't you inspect it more closely.

[Alois asked handing the top hat to the boy. He offers the boy a kind smile before asking further questions.]

Who does it remind you of?

[And he does! He removes his own hat and tries on the top hat, grinning as he does.]

The Professor! He's a famous puzzle-solving archeologist, and I'm his apprentice! The Professor has a hat just like this one!

A puzzle solving archeologist... [Alois repeated thoughtfully] What a fascinating occupation. I imagine you've been able to gaze upon plenty of old artifacts.

Say! If this hat reminds you of someone you like so much, why don't you keep it..?

Of course I have! The Professor has quite the large collection!

[A pause, he's rummaging around in his pockets to see how much money he has left.] Oh um, I'm not sure if I have enough to buy it right now.

Does he now? No wonder you desired to become his apprentice.

[Lays it on thick]

Who said anything about buying it....? [Glances around the shop] No one is looking.. you could just walk out with it.

[Steal it? Luke's face turns serious.]

What, no way! I'd never steal a hat! Or anything for that matter!

[Hm. This is going to be more difficult than I thought..Still smiling, Alois claps his hands together]

I'm glad to hear you say that! This town needs more upstanding people like you.

[Looks very sincerely at the boy]

Sorry for the ruse, but allow me to buy it for you as a reward for your troubles.

[He's a little suspicious.]

You'd really buy that for me?

I know it's not. [The boy sighed and turned toward the clerk's station] .. but I would like to do something.

Wait here. [ Taking his leave of the other boy, Alois moved over and began conversing with the clerk. He angled himself just so it would be difficult to tell if any money exchanged hands or not. In one moment, Alois did stop to point at Luke but that was about it.

He returned shortly]

It's all been taken care of~.

[Luke's still kind of unsure about all of this, so he doesn't move yet.]

[Sensing the hesitation, he tries to continue the conversation]

I wonder if this professor of yours will ever show up in Avon.

[And it works! Anything involving the Professor makes a good distraction.]
