Capricon 26 continued the kick-ass party con tradition, I'm happy to say, with a Serenity/Firefly themed party, a pirate party, and the "Fear of a Slimed Cow Planet" or whatever it was supposed to be. The latter (which I helped a bit with) featured pretty good food (I swear it wasn't me that ate 25% of the snacks as they were being put out!), dubiously colored drinks, and party lights that looked as though they'd been set up by drunk people (I suppose that was the point!)
The daytime programming was rather sparse, so I didn't feel so bad about having to run back to the city for a few things on Saturday.
I met Peter S Beagle, the con Author GOH, by the seventh floor elevators, and we had a brief, but interesting conversation. He's the very embodiment of the saying "Still waters run deep". Demon later chastised me when I admitted to never having read The Last Unicorn (I swear I'll get to it.)
Beagle and local folkie Kat Eggleston gave a great concert Saturday evening, as did Indiana filker Michael Longcor. I missed Tom Smith this time (too bad, as he has a lot of new material) because I was doing party setup. Oh well.
The ADD pirate show the same night was funny for about the first 20 minutes, but it went on for an hour. Even less amusing was one of the pirate's attempt to grope Miss Sharon on the party floor later (me not being present) Avast, scurvy dog! She handled it, of course, with her usual aplomb, so I ain't too worried. :D
There was also an actual dog present, dressed as an aviator in goggles and canine flight jacket. Perhaps the funniest moment of the con was seeing the dog, sans owner, walk into one of the party rooms... the doorman stared at it for a second, then without comment put a party sticker on its badge and let it walk in.
The only other Bronzer present (that I know of) was Tara O'Shea, aka LJC, whom I recognized when she interrupted a conversation about Dr. Who to say, "Actually, that's a Colin Baker jacket." Ah, fandom.
