I used to get my mail from the same small UPS store in NYC as Wallace Shawn, and I would see him in there every now and again when I was picking up a package or something. One day when it was just him and me (and a UPS guy) in the store, I drummed up all my courage and told him as he was turning back in my direction to leave, "Hi, Mr. Shawn, I just wanted to thank you for all the years of joy you've given me and my family." That was all I said, because I'm very conscious of how much these guys get bombarded by people. Anyway, he was very awkward and sort of not nice... which is sort of how he comes across in this article. Tttthhhhbbbttt.
